I've seen a handful of comments how fragile the finish on the Hot Rod is. Wondering if the 57 is any better?

They both have the Nitrocellulose finish, but the Hot Rod specs say that it is a thin skin finish. 57 doesn't say this. So, is it more durable?

I do like the 57 but am concerned about the finish.

Also, any other thoughts comments about it? (the finish or the guitar overall)? I don't know if I like the idea of the nitro finish on the neck.

I have a 57 AVRI and a 52 Hot Rod Tele. The finish on the Hot Rod is much more fragile, it already is showing wear after 1 month while my 57 I bought used a year ago still looks new. >_> As for the finish on the neck, long as I keep it clean it doesn't hold me up at all. Keep in mind the 57 AVRI has the vintage neck (7.25 radius V shape and smaller frets), so you might want to give it a test play to make sure your left hand approves. ^^

I have a '57 RI with the regular nitro finish and also a '62 Hot Hod & '59 with the thin skin finish.
I can tell the "thin skin" will wear quicker than the nitro on the '57.....which doesn't bother me,I grew up wearing out nitro finished guitars.
