Hello, new to this forum, but not to Strats... I decided to get a new Strat last week, saw this beauty and couldn't resist! It was kinda of a birthday gift to myself :) just thought I'd share...

Can anyone tell what's changed already? oh it's a 2010 in case you're wondering.

and here she is with her much older sister..

This thing is light! I really like what Fender did with the neck, feels very comfortable, didnt take long to get used to. This is also my first maple neck guitar, all my other guitars have rosewood or ebony, I was worried I wouldn't enjoy it, but so far so good!

What do u think? I did good??

Welcome to the Forum....

They are both just absolutely beautiful. 8)

I recently bought an 09 Deluxe because I like the Abalone Inserts instead of the 2010 perloid inlays.

The perloids don't do it for me on the 10 Deluxe.

Only judging by the photo's, have you changed out the whole pickguard assembly...?

But it is still a lovely guitar..enjoy...

That guitar is the real deal. Some changes for 2010 include N3 pickups, a bevelled neck heel, compund radius fretboard, a new S1 configuration, and different inlays (which are nice for any year, in my opinion). I believe they've always had staggered tuners.

Regardless, I'm very much interested in a 2010 deluxe in tobaccoburst. However if I see a sienna(or cherry?) like yours a might just be walking out of the store with that

Congrats on the fine new instrument!

That is absolutely stunning, my favourite colour on a Strat bar none!

I actually have one ordered myself which should be with me in around 2-3 months, so can't wait for that!

Very classy indeed!

Thanks! I didnt notice the inlays were even different :) I really do like the way it looks, it's a beautiful guitar! but she gotta sound good first... after 2 or 3 days of messing with my amps trying to hear that Strat tone I was after, I couldn't take it anymore! So out went the N3s and wow!!! It's a different animal now! I heard lots of great things about the Fralin Blues Specials, "heard" lots of samples on youtube, was lucky enough to have a store close enough who sells them, so the next day I drove out there, I'm a very happy man now! It's time to play some Blues! Try to at least... actually all I wanna play right now is Lenny, the tone reminds me so much of Stevie's Lenny...

2-3 months?? ur a very patient man! :) u wont be disappointed that's for sure! I really like how light the guitar is, all my other guitars are heavy, except my other Strat, but even that one (also ash) is at least 2 lbs heavier.

I don't know about patient, the wait is killing me

It's only been a week and a few days and so there is still plentl of time to wait yet.

Like you say, it will be worth it in the end, mine too is an ash bodied model so I don't know what its weight will be like!

Russ

I too would love a tobaccoburst! But when I saw the aged cherry at the local GC I couldn't resisit! didnt see any tobaccoburst there..

I do like some of the changes, dont care for some :) N3 pup are already gone! I never had the S1 config before, wouldn't know what to do with it... I bought a Strat to sound like a Strat, for other tones I reach for other guitars. Just my opinion, I'm sure there are many out there that love the whole N3/S1 setup.

Twins! Very nice!! It's very hard to find an exact Strat like mine, rosewood and hardtail. What year is yours? Mine is a 79, my first guitar, bought back in the early 80s, one of the best sounding Strats I ever heard. That deluxe is a beauty!

The beveled neck heel has been introduced on the Stratocaster models in 2002. Fender added that feature for the Telecaster in 2004.

That is funny. That was my first guitar too. Found this guitar at the now de-functed Seattle Music in 1978 (I think). Put it on lay away and paid it off month by month. I still have the plastic molded Fender Case that I bought about 4 months after the guitar.

I agree, Hardtail strats w/ Rosewood necks are not that common.

My DLX now sports a Dimazio Tone Zone and SCN's (pickups from my '57 Hot Rod) wired into the S-1 switch and new caps. It's my go to Hard Rock (metal) guitar.

When I first read your post, I was suprised that you thought the Ash DLX was light! Compared to my other strats (50's Classic, '57 Hot Rod, and '57AVRI), my Ash DLX is a tank. But compared to my '78 the DLX is as light as paper.
