Im having a real bear of a time keeping my Vintage White 09 Fender Deluxe Strat in tune at the G B and high E strings. No matter how fine tune I try to adjust it I cant get the G to sound right. (The wound strings - E A D - all seem to stay in tune.) When I first bought this guitar I had a professional setup performed by a well recommended shop in Phoenix and it sounded and played great up until the last few days. This set up was done in March btw. Can it be possible I just need a set of new strings? (the strings were new when I had it setup) maybe the air is set too cold in the house? (its around 100 degrees out here in the desert) Im using Fender recommended gauge strings and havnt changed them since the set up in March and I play everyday.

Any ideas? Thx

Just curious where you went for the setup? Guitar Electronics?

What does the G string sound like? My G sting always sounds a little more twangy than the rest. Could just be a bad string. I would try a new set and see if it makes a difference.

It may pay off for you to re string it with new strings, make sure that they are the same gauge that it was set up with.

When you change string for string, whilst the string is out put some Nut Sauce or Vaseline in the Nut.

this should sort your tuning problem.

Good luck and take care.

Check your tuner bushings and make sure they are threaded tight to the headstock. About 10 inch/pounds should be sufficient (a quarter turn beyond finger-tight).

Ill get some new strings this week and give it a try. For some reason, when I'd tune the G it would either be too sharp or too flat- not the happy middle. But again, it could be the strings. Ill use the Fender bullets and see how they go.

a couple months with the same strings? How much play have they had? if you play regularly that's way too long to go without a change.

Guitar Electronics seems to be the place to go in the Phoenix area.

I go just cause it's close to my work. I'm usually just picking up stuff there though, but it's a good place, they remember my name and usually have what I'm looking for.

i had the same problem even after a pro set it up. changed strings 3 times. finally, after a suggestion from this forum, i put on 12's with a wound g string. solved my problem. yes, it's a bi-otch to bend but i've adjusted and have other guitars with lighter gauge strings. the g and b strings seem to always give me headaches. why?

The G and B always give me a problem too. Ill give this a try. I assume the nut needs a little work too? Also- How or where do you find a set like this or does it take to few different sets to do this?

Return to your guitar shop, Maybe your neck move because is a new guitar. So your intonation is bad.

There is NO reason , except need a tune-up, to put any kind of stings on your guitar.

Fisrt put a new set of strings. And if is not ok , read that below :

The only thing who can move or change is your neck curve and you are out of tune.

Otherwise if your neck is ok, you need to adjust the saddles on the bridge to get the right intonnation.

But remember, the saddles don't move themself. And it is almost never the nut.

jimbo, try all other's advice before you go down my street. yes, it worked for me, but it's a huge adjustment to play. i love the heavy strings. it gives my strat a very gonadish punch that i really like. but, it's hard to bend. do this as a last effort to fix your issues. it did work for me and my bandmates have noticed the beefier tone. but, i've got 3 more guitars to choose from. i simply have to play my strat, and it has to be in tune. it is now. wound g string.
