I know it is all opinion based, but is it me or do all the American Deluxes come in some strange color combos. I would love just a candy apple red or a midnight blue with a standard white pickguard. I know you can buy another pickguard, but some require holes being drilled etc etc because of the S-1. Or at least give the customer the option of a plain white pickguard. I would have bought one by now, but only the aged cherry even begins to come close for me. Thanks for letting me vent.

Mine is a tobacco sunburst but came with the incredibly ugly mint pickguard and backplate. I replaced them with a black/cream/black PG and have no backplate.

That's exactly what I mean. It is one of the more expensive models and yet when you buy it you have to do some additional work on it just to make it look good. Maybe Fender will offer a couple of normal colors if more consumers complain. Trust me, I get the "Its all about the sound", but it doesn't hurt to get what you want for $1100.

I completely agree. In fact, Fender doesn't even offer the pickguard I wanted. They really don't have many. I got mine from wdmusic.com and it fit perfectly.
