I've got a '97 - '99 American Standard, Surf Green, rosewood fingerboard, with a matching Surf Green headstock. When I bought this (new about '99) I was told it was a one time limited run. Until now, the only other time I had ever seen one was about a year after I bought mine, in a music shop in the UK.

Imagine my surprise when I walked into my local Sam Ash last weekend and saw a brand new Surf Green American Standard, rosewood, with a matching Surf Green headstock! (At twice the price I might add....)

Does anyone have any info on these matching headstock models? I can't find anything on Fender's website.

Fender did a factory special run of Am Std Strats recently (last year or two) in a couple of colors including the surf green, fiesta red, and maybe daphne blue (not sure which blue). Yours is not part of that factory special run obviously... Back in the mid 90's, 1995 I believe, Am Std Strats were available in at least Candy Apple Red w/painted headstock. They might have also been available then in Surf Green but I don't know for sure..

I remember the "Special" painted headstock Strats. They bere very cool. Don't quote me on this, but I think they painted them all in the colors Fender used in the '50.

I saw two:
Salmon colored
Burgandy Myst (I think)

If I recall, there were a lot more color choices when it came to Am Std Strats back then.

I have another Am Std that's Antique White. The only other guitar I've ever seen in that color is the Malmsteen signature.

Have been looking into a new American Standard. Was pleasantly surprised to see an all black and all white limited run this year. "Ebony" and "Ivory". That includes painted heads.

A handful of places are taking pre-orders, but not much happening beyond that. According to Fender CS, they are yet to be built.
