I recently purchased a Hwy 1 and find that I'm not using the Tremolo. Is it possible to fix the bridge and if so how to?

There are several choices, one being a solid rod in place of the springs,
another being a Tremol-no, or similar adjustable blocker.
Also, you could replace the tremolo with a hardtail bridge.

I didn't know that you could put a hardtail bridge on a tremolo guitar.

Huh, well, I guess you learn something new everyday!

The solid rod option sounds like it would be the easiest and least expensive. Would you know where I could get one?

Its sounds smart just to replace the springs.. sure it might get a lot of sustain, but what about the sound anyway.. I really cant imagine.. Would it be like some put 2 extra springs, so they have 5 instead of 3.. Hmm..

Well, for the rod-replacing-spring solution, I would just fab some steel rod from lowes, or home depot.
but you can search ebay "fixed bridge" or "tremol-no" and you'll find something.
(I can't post links to for-profit sites, sorry)

I have a '94 Clapton Strat. The bridge is "blocked" with a piece of wood. Send me an email and I'll send you a picture of it. pete.hanlon@comcast.net

Pete,
Thanks for the help on the Tremolo, that's a great fix.
