The serial # CN507049. This strat is being represented as
an American Custom shop. From my inquiries the CN re-
prensents a Korean built strat. Can anyone direct me
to find the answer??? Thanks!!

Not a Custom Shop guitar:

CN(XXXXXX)
VN(XXXXXX) Korean-made Fender/Squier guitars (dating unclear)

There is a lot of confusion about this because both the Custom Shop and Fender's Korean supplier used CN serial numbers at some point.

There were some early/mid 90s CS Strats with CN serial numbers - for example, before it became part of the Time Machine series there were some CS '69 Strats with CN serial numbers. However, these will have a neck plate with the Fender CS logo as well as the CN serial number, and will clearly have the CS logo on the back of the headstock, etc. I would assume that for the Custom Shop "CN" stood for "Custom Nineties) much like "DN" stood for Deluxe Nineties on 1998/99 American Deluxe series Fenders. I would love to find a photo, but I did play a '69 NOS Strat back in 1999 or so at a MARS Music in Cincinnati that had a CN serial number.

There aren't many models that had these neck plates, but there are a few; they were used on more-or-less one-off things.

Try email Fender CS with the serial number and see what they come up with.

Maybe Fender can clarify. The more i've read about Strats, there
were many many made and from differenent countries and seems
like some overlaps of sorts.
thanks again.

also shouldn't a CS be marked with the decal on the back of the headstock?

I ran the serial number through the guitar dater project and came up with this:

Guitar Info
Your guitar was made in Korea
in the Year(s): Cannot yet be determined from serial number
