I think mine had some too. It's long gone now. It's not really a big deal, if anything it adds to the new guitar vibe.

Hi KCW1229: I think you might find that is white dust from sanding and buffing the lacquer. I also find it kinda odd that makers leave it in there rather than just brushing or blowing it out. But nearly all of 'em do it, so...

Cheers - C

The "sawdust" is leftover polishing compound that sticks inside the cavities after the guitar gets buffed. It's probably too sticky to blow out but dries out after the guitar is cased and boxed and the dessicant packages absorb the moisture...
This is an integral part of the new guitar smell when you first pop open the case...mmmm

I agree it is residue from the buffing process.
I got a cheap Ibanez body from a friend to refinish. Now keep in mind, this is about as cheap a guitar as you can get. in the pickup cavities you can clearly see sawdust that was left behind, and painted over. A lot of it. You'll never see anything like that on a Fender branded instrument, not sure on the cheaper Squiers, because a lot of them are made at the same plants as the cheapo Ibanezes.

You should find sawdust under the pickguard (around the mounting holes).

The guitars are factory made in an assembly line. Sure they blow off the saw dust, for about 10 seconds. They won't get it all, but as long as its off the body when painting, the cavities don't matter. My deluxe MIM strat has a little dust in the edges of the cavity. Doesn't hurt the guitar at all. As long as what you see when the guitar is put together is right, then its all good!

Good gracious folks. The first thing I do with any new guitar is remove the strings, take all the knobs off, and remove the plastic film covering the pick guard and tremolo plates. Take all the mounting screws off and get that dust out of the cavities.

It also gives me a reason to look under the hood and inspect the wiring and soldering points.

I found sawdust in my 1986 japanese strat when I removed the pickguard... It may have been the first time that pickguard had been removed since it was put together at the factory...

hahah, when i got the guitar, i just pulled the plastic off the pickguard without taking off the screws and all, so theres a bit of plastic stuck under the screws :( ahahaha. thats why i need to take my tone knobs off and all, but i dont know,,, if... i can just directly pull off the tone knobs ANd if i take the strings off the action, intonation and all those setup issues will be different.

I need to change strings buttt im not sure if i shud jst go to the place i got it so they can setup for me :D:D haha

Learn to change your own strings - simple! Then learn to do your own set-up adjustments. Also easy, and fun! I think it helps make your guitar - "yours" too!

Fender supplies numerous and quite specific instructions in their manuals and FAQs etc. You will have that axe a long time (and probably others!) Learn how to work on them! All it costs is a few basic tools, some patience, and maybe some common sense.
