If this is a strat or a copy?
Or perhaps something else?
I purchased it at a yard sale for $50,the body came with a Carvin replacement neck on it and the body has been rerouted apparently..
I've been researching possible matches to no avail.
Help please!

I'd have to say it is a copy. I don't think Fender ever used plywood for their bodies. And that is definitely plywood.

Alright, so its narrowed down to not a strat.
Either way it sounds great whens its pieced together,I sanded the poor finish off of it.
I assume this is homemade then.
Still open to comments for sure.

Or perhaps not?
Weren't pre-cbs strats slab/veneer?
Or was it just the necks that were?

it could be a squier. i believe they still make some squires from plywood. are the horns real pointy or nicely rounded? it has a two point fulcrum so that narrows things down.

btw, during the mid '90's i bought a squier stratocaster as my second guitar(the first being a $50 dollar harmony that was awfull in every way) and i still miss it to this day.. incredible guitar, it puts most of the guitars i play in GC to shame including american and mexican strats. and guess what it was made out of? plywood. :D

Yes, the bridge holes are in the same spot but the bridge looked to be a little older.

It's kind of hard to say. What bothers me is the cut-out by the base of the neck, something going on with points, but I'm not an expert on this.

I have a Squier II strat from the 80's that has a plywood body and the trem backplate holes ARE NOT off centered .
Here's the strange part,, it sounds better than my USA Seinna Sunburst HSS Ash Strat.

as for the Pre-CBS guitars, the slab is talking about the way that the necks were made, specifically the fingerboards.
