+1

Especially if you find a good used one. I picked up my Daphne Blue 2010 '50s Classic for $400 with a tweed case. And this was at Guitar Center, who aren't normally cheap on their guitars. The only thing wrong with it is a tiny (and I mean TINY) ding on the side of the guitar. If you looked hard enough, I bet you could find an individual seller selling one of these for $300 or less. You'll just have to be very patient, as these don't come up for sale very often.

on those notes about the MIM instruments, I also feel like Fender is really starting take a real notice and detail with the Squire series guitars. Some of them are really nice.

I own a modified 2009 Standard Stratocaster (with a maple fretboard) and absolutely love it! Incredible guitar...wouldn't sell it or trade it for anything (well maybe for a Custom Shop Guitar).

Recently, I went to GC and just cannot get into the new 2012 Standard Stratocasters with the plastic-looking shiny maple fretboards. The fretboards look cheaper...like they're made in China even though they're MIM. My fretboard has a light tint but seems darker than a Clapton board.

The new 2012's don't look anything like FSRs or American Stratocasters of the past which were heavily tinted but still good looking.

In the future when I buy another, I'll be going with Rosewood.

Anyone else feel the same?

Ok, I admit it (don't kick me!), I never liked the MiM Strats. I've had about 30 in my hands so far and NONE ever came even in reach - not to mention CLOSE - to any of my American Strats.
Now I got a 2009 MiM Standard Strat, black, maple neck, stock condition, as brand new, for a very fairly price. I decided to give it a try, with the price I got I would've even made some extra cash if I had to resell it.

What can I say? This baby blew me away! Superb manufacture quality and a tone to literally melt away!!

I have to admit that I haven't touched a MiM for about .... errr ...maybe 3 years.

I dunno if you can relate my experience to all other MiMs after 2009, but mine is very, very good.

I have tried everything from mid 90s to early 2000s and they didn't convince me. Either there was a quantum step forward some time after 2000 or I was simply lucky with my 2009 one.

They're the best series that I've played.

A 70s classic series under 12lbs will be most difficult to find. They are clean sounding, and have great finish and hardware. I'm still in the hunt for a used classic 50's and 60's strat for a good price.

What's an average price for one of these?

I have since traded my MIMs after I went MIA, but of between the 4 I had: 91, 95, 06, and 07, The 95 played and sounded the best. My least favorite was the 06.

I have a 07 Deluxe Player, and it's very nice,
Mint condition for $250, the frets need some detail work on it,
but in the mean time i added a 84 MIJ neck to it, and now i'm 100% satisfied.
they have to be the best value for your money. you can find them all day for $300.

I have an 07/08 MIM HSS and I have to say that at least for the casual player It plays and feels great! With the right setup I would dare say they give the MIAs a run for the money. But, I would love to hear from some pros to find out if they hold up under the stress of touring and constant play.

I played pro for 15 years, and i don't see why that matters,
if a guitar is playing well at home or in your garage, why would it change on the road.?
as long as your not dragging it behind the equipment truck / trailer / Bus. :D
all my guitars were with me either on the bus or in the van, never in the cold or extreme heat.
if your doing a lot of flying, a anvil flight case would be recommended.

I bring up the point because it would appear the biggest differences are the quality of the parts. To me, if a guitar has "cheaper" parts it might be prone to issues. Screws snapping, fret issues, finish and wood issues, wires breaking, pots wearing out, etc. An at home player wouldn't put the guitar through it's paces the same as a pro.

well i think the pro player will take a bit more care of his or her guitar for the simple fact that it's making them money.
and they might have a bit more respect for the instrument.
also they work on their guitars more, changing strings, and cleaning them after the show.
not all guitar players throw them up in the air or slide them across the floor, or set fire to them.
unless you have a huge budget on the road, or your pockets run very deep,
they take care of them.
i think the worst that happens is getting it stolen, or the bus catches on fire.
but that's a new story.. :D

Dude, Really?
Are you really saying that as a pro you can't see where quality of parts could be an issue and how it holds up? I'm not talking about abuse or neglect. I'm talking about playing that guitar 3 to 4 hours a day. Ware and tear on the jack and nobs. effects of sweat on the finish and hardware. Trem parts holding up. These are the kinds of issues that can pop up. Apparently what you played never gave you any issues. What did you take with you?

for most of my years playing i used my Kramer Beretta as my main guitar,
up until the mid 90's when i switched to my Samick Les Paul.
as i was only gigging in clubs across the states, and have played in almost every state.
i did not have the luxury of having a guitar tech to take care of my guitars.
the national acts will have a guitar tech to do all their work,
and even better care for their guitars. if a tech finds a problem, it is fixed ASAP.
they carry around a lot of extra parts just in case something goes wrong.
i always had a few extra small parts with me, and a soldering iron.
yes you will get a bit more wear and tear if your playing every day,
but i know people that play every day that are not traveling,
for example, before i stated playing in a band, i would play 8 hours + a day.
