Hey Andy,

When does Randel get to start on his own Catostraster build?

Can just picture that little guy with a pencil in his mouth and wood glue on his whiskers..

The psychology of Cats does not allow this vision of yours to come true. Whatever they need within their 9 lives, they have it made. Once understood, this principle applied will allow long lasting friendships with our feline masters and masterettes. :D

Crikey!!!

That could very well be footage of Molly waking up Twelvebar every morning too!!
She loves the 'pat the Food Guy's face with just the tips of your claws sticking out' move the cartoon cat used. in fact all that's missing is the 'lick his eyelids with your sandpaper tongue' maneuver.

Hehehe!

Can't believe this thread is still going (Yes, I do enjoy a good thread hijack!).

Randel will defiantly get his own Sig Guitar soon. We're still planning it at the moment.

If all goes well I should have some Tone-caster samples sorted soon... though there may well be some changes to the current setup as I have other plans for the Weapon X sensors.

I'll keep you all posted! :D

Carry on!

Andy

Out of our two it is The Cat Charles who exhibits the behaviour illustrated. His sister instead crashes around knocking things over and climbing in the waste paper basket to make her point.

And if all of that fails they both engage in chasing/fighting games around the bedroom, with screaming, hissing, tearing out of fur and general hurtling about that is just impossible to ignore. It's amazing how two cats' small feet can sound like the Charge Of The Light Brigade first thing in the morning...

They never, ever wake us gently with tea and toast. :?

True. Though Randel did bring me a rather large live rat to play with once... During the 5 hours spent trying to catch this fine gift, 2 hours sanitising the house, and a further 4 hours try to calm down my two female house mates (neither of which where particularly keen on rats) it ever occurred to me to ask for it on toast. :D

Enjoy!

BTW: Good to see 12Bar posting again....8)

Ha! Mrs C and I have become absolute experts at catching rodents brought in at three in the morning. Our two are very energetic mousers, but they do tend to lose interest in their toys as soon as they get them in the middle of the living room carpet. They let them go ju-u-ust before you get there and watch them dash into the curtains with a desultory "meh".

Someone gave us an excellent tip which really works. Mice and rats in that situation are terrified and looking for a dark hole to shoot down. So you simply place a rubber boot on its side hard against the skirting board and then with a walking stick or similar herd the mouse towards it from beneath whichever item of furniture it has hidden under. It runs along the wall, sees the boot and gratefully rushes in: you pick it up and pop it outside - or whatever you wish to do. (If it is unkind don't tell me about it: I'm such a softy on this stuff. )

We used to spend two or three hours chasing a mouse or shrew from one sofa to another. Now we can go from a cat entering by the cat flap with a wriggling moustache to the mouse safely out and us back in bed in a mere 15 minutes or so. And the cats know we've enjoyed our entertainment...

...Build us some more guitars, Andy. :D

Cheers - C

Genius! That is indeed a top tip. (Between you and me, Mrs Bighair has a fine collection of boots which I feel would make a perfect "Rodent Trap")

Pending..... One of my proposed builds is proving a challenge wiring wise... Lots of fun! :D

You made building a guitar neck look way too easy in your last build thread, I've only just got my head round how to go about building mine! I'm keen to try a few different methods/types of neck out.

Have you ever tried to make a multi-laminate neck before?

I quite like the idea of making a side profile neck template (minus the finger board) with an angled headstock and using that to route out several pieces of [insert hardwood of choice], then sandwich them together, bung in a truss rod, slap on a fret board and carve the back of the neck.

Just need to sort that trip to the Timber Merchants... pending confirmation of some time off work...but soon!

I'll keep you posted!

Ah - this is sounding most interesting, Andy! My eyes just popped at the idea...

...same happened when I read Mr C's rodent catching device tip. I must however put out there, that apparently all rodents / bits of rodent brought into houses by felines are meant to be gifts for their tin-openers, so in Andy's case you are supposed to relish mouse liver, and Ceri, my dear chap, it is not at all compliant with the cat's plans if you cut the amusement from 3 hours to 15 minutes by using the boot-method. I fear for you that this will only spark the feline desire for perfection and will make them bring in more small toys. Probably to see how fast you will get... So far, 15 minutes sounds like a bally world record, if you ask me! I applaud you!

Such fun! :D

No, and I'm keen to have a go at that. Interesting thing: you hardly ever find beech wood used in modern instrument building - with the curious exception of the necks of Höfner Club semi-acoustics. A sexy little guitar to my eyes, especially in a natural finish (which doesn't seem to be available on their website at present - I think it might be the Custom version I have in mind):

http://www.hofner.com/gab/en/phpshop/43 ... ry_id,100/

The neck of that guitar is a maple-beech-maple sandwich, which is an inspiring notion. To me anyway - because I happen to have a beech log felled from a tree on my own land. Along with some of my own sycamore (a type of maple). So the idea of doing a multi-piece construction, probably with little dark wood fillets for prettiness, and then using it for a neck-through build is just too tempting! Maybe with a homegrown hawthorn fingerboard?

Stay tooned...

Make it happen! Applause shall be yours. :D

Ready when you are. Remind me: there's a brewery somewhere on this road-trip too? Ooo, it's going to be Two-Lane Blacktop all over again! 8)

BTW: using a woman's boot as a mouse trap goes down pretty much the same way as if they used one of our guitars for beating the poor mouse on the head.

...In my humble experience.

At the country retreat our bedroom is within earshot of the cat flap. And no matter how fast asleep we are, we've both developed a sort of sixth sense that can tell the difference between a cat coming in "clean" and a cat with a mouse in its mouth. Somehow they make a different sound as they clatter through that little door.

There is some sort of always-on monitoring system at the backs of our heads that gets triggered and before we've even come awake we both find we've leapt out of bed and dashed into the living room in a desperate attempt to get a hand on the scruff of the cat's neck before it drops the mouse. Once or twice we've even made it!

But mostly not. Then we awaken standing there looking at each other with "oh crap" expressions on our faces... :?

The cats on the other hand are busy grinning away with expectant looks that say; "What larks! Let the games begin!"

Cheers - C

Ha! I suspect if there's nothing exciting on TV, tha cats make their own programme! Our cat, who is now kindly residing with my Dad, is getting quite old now, 15 years I think. Which means he isn't the mouser he used to be, but then again, he has other ways of keeping himself entertained. I'm sure you catlovers all know the "I need to go wee wee"-move, which results in self standing in a half-open door, usually scarcely clad, waiting for RH to finish sniffing the air, then deciding to retreat without doing aforementioned business... One desires a cat flap in such occasions. Strongly!
Ah well.

I've only worked with it a couple of times. I made a beach handle for an axe with a rather nice "whipping" (not sure if that's the right term) grip made from waxed string.

I found beach to be quite heavy and blunts tools much quicker than Maple or Mahogany but much stronger that both of those. Very stable and no need to grain fill either. Makes sense to use it for a neck. Even better for a multi-lam, keep the weight down. 50 points to you Mr C!.

Ceri wrote:

Blimey, That's going to give a really "spikey" tone. Prickly highs and sharp mids...

You mentioned "fillets for prettiness", IMO it doesn't get much prettier than some Of Ben Crowe's work at Crimson Guitars...

Tasty!

Unlikely - with you and Al wedged in my Honda Civic.

Likely - If your bringing the Jag. :D

Bloody good point! Though Mrs Bighair is more likely to carry out her long term threat of smearing Marmite on my fretboards.... :(

I can't "go" if I'm being watched either... Cat flap or no....

Enjoy!
