Howdy!

Thank you all so much for all the lovely posts! It really does mean a great deal. Me and Randel the Cat are slightly lost for words. We're so pleased you've all enjoyed the thread. We had lots of fun making it! :D

As requested here's a list of all the different pick up combinations that the “Big Hairy Tone-caster” has to offer.

I make that 32 different pickup combinations not including the Mid boost which works with all of the above. Awesome! :D

I wonder when UncleThang will be back with some sweet Big Hairy sound samples? *wipes drool off chin*

Unfortunately you may have to wait a while for those as both me and Uncle Thang have pretty savage work loads so finding time to meet can be a bit problematic. Also Sandpit Studios is over in the west country. I'll keep you posted as when the recordings due to take place. In the mean time I'll work on recording some stuff at home when I get a chance and bung some tunes up on a Myspace page or something like that.

With regards as to what I'm planning next... Me and Randel have some very interesting projects on the table at the moment and plenty of crazy wiring we want to try out but it will be a while before I do another Big Hairy Build Thread. Time to let someone else have a go.

So for now, I'll just rock out with Randel and my Big Hairy Tone-caster!!!

Thanks again everyone!

Enjoy! :D

If the cat's happy, the guitar is good!
(That's at least one universal truth we can rely on.)

I must go and have a lie-down now, or a lobotomy; either way, I hope my head stops spinning! Those switching possibilities bring my head to overdrive!

Andy if UncleThang, Randel and you would like, I have mic, preamp and interface flying around the place, just gimme a buzz. Oh and do us the favour and stay away from MySpace, they use some awful codec that munches your sound quality to bits (literally). Mabe instead you could use Sendspace or something where us audiophiles could download some audio files? (wow that wasn't even intended - sorry)

Whichever way, I'm sure it sounds nice! And as I say, Randel approves, so... 8)

PS: My mate says he does remember seeing you at the Beck concert! Fat lot of good that does us now, innit? Doh!

Holy Zarquon singing fish!

I try not to use more graphic profanities - in public, anyhow. But I sure as heck am thinking them right now!

Still. Easy and intuitive switching, huh? Care to pick a couple of fave settings from that lot, Andy? Enquiring minds need to know.

How the feck you ever worked out that wiring I shall never understand! Respec'...

Is it? Where?

Anyhow: where better on the Forum to post this pic? As you know I was away for the weekend. The cats were very pleased to see me when I got home and we went on the lash together to celebrate. This is after just a couple of bottles of Teignworthy Beachcomber ale: she really can't hold her beer, this one:

LOL! Mr C....that was good..... I built a 3 pickups Tele with a 6-way rotary switch that had around 12 different pickup configurations. Most of the time I stuck with about 4 of them, as my old brain could simply remember where they were at! But the idea of having all those positions is pretty cool when your looking for a sound that is not typical to a Strat, like all 3 pickups on at one time...That just plain FAT. And then with Andy's boost, well, that would be a monster!!!!

FAT indeed!

No right and wrong on this. I find I really do sometimes use all five options on a conventionally wired Strat. Though usually less. My suspicion is that in any real-life playing situation what we need is about two or three distinctly different sounds - I'm certain an audience can't notice more than that.

On the other hand, playing in a studio type setting we so often feel our sound is nearly right, but just wants a tiny bit more... something. Andy sure as heck ain't ever going to be stumped for options at those moments, is he?

I used to try and imagine how many switching variations I could come up with using a reasonably conventional looking set of knobs and switches. Never in my wildest dreams did I think up with anything like this. Streuth!

You electronic-heads take my breath away. Hats off to you all. 8)

Cheers - C
