Sorry Andy, I guess the problem was just too big and hairy for my wee little brain! :)

Looking forward to more build candy!

Hey Nutter,

No worries! My bad for making a stupidly complicated diagram.

You get 50 points for effort though.

I'll crack on.

Oh, how kind! not that I knew in the slightest how this points thing works, and I tend to think it's more a symbolic honour, but I thank you none the less! It was a pleasure taking part! :)

I will gladly share my 50 points with Nikininja, if he agrees. I just have to figure out how the points are transferred... :) Nick, what say you? 8)

Still hanging onto my own 50pts Andy, is there an ABH catalogue coming out, and what can we hope to redeem these point's for.

Howdy,

Well, I must confess. I haven't achieved a great deal as far as progress on the build is concerned, but work has been proper bonkers and I've been distracted by a new toy.

So while Ceri is away I suppose it's up to me to hijack my own thread.

I received a late birthday present from my older brother....

Image

Its a custom made Germanium Fuzz pedal and oh my, does it rock!

My brother and his bass player sat down with a breadboard and tried out different transistors until they found the “Tone”, then they plonked in in a box and gave it to me! I am one seriously happy chap. :D

That pedal with this Strat...

Image

...creates the sound I've been after. Its like a Big Hairy Hendrix-ish Fuzz delight to my ears!

And my day just got even better! Found a very tasty, very drinkable beer...

Image

Oxford Gold Organic Beer. It gets the Big Hairy Seal of Approval. :D

Oh yeah, Keep hold of those 50 points people as once Randel the Cat obtains world domination they'll come in handy!

Cheers! :D

Buffered input too, to run the wah pedal infront of it! A staple on my fuzz's mate.

Happy BigFuzzyHaired Birthday mate.

Thanks Nick,

That pedal deserves better than my Line 6 POD X3 through JPW speakers :?

I best get my Big Hairy arse in gear and knock out this Strat and move on to the next project as my current amp just doesn't have the room to be used at a decent volume.

Its a signed Marshall VS100R. Way too big but nice to have just in case I grow a pair and decide to play live one day.

Go on, get a band.

You'll love it mate. It's only scarey the first time. After that your gonna make Phil Mitchell craving crack look like someone needing a cup of tea every morning, for it.

The VS's and preceeding 80 series amps are on my list of top 5 amps ever. I'm currently looking for a decent stereo chorus one. I gigged a 8280 for years. What a tremendous, portable, great sounding amp it was. The only problem with the older 80 series amps was that after a while the transistors would start to pack up, when you ran em hard.

Your in good metal company with that amp mate. Tommy Victor recorded prong's best stuff through one. The late Chuck Schulinder of the band Death was utterly devoted to em.

Now cmon in public or not, I need to see the innards of that pedal

ANDY! Not in a band bro??? What gives!

Time to hit the local papers and get out there. You definitely have the gear mate and generally speaking, it means you have the chops (no soundclips have been posted so we just don't know :p).

Whilst you're correct in saying the right gear is pivotal and that your pod xt aint the real official deal, when you play live, 95% of the time no one is gonna notice the difference between $100 pedal vs a $1000 pedal.

Thanks when those all modelling 8kg wonders make fantastic backup rigs :D (and sometimes when you just can't be arse carrying the quad box, fantastic number 1 rigs aswell :p).

Humility is a notable attribute for anyone, but most especially guitar players. I suspect that you are a better player than you think you are Andy. More practice and fewer build threads would help but then what would we do? Practice more? What a vicious circle...

I played quite a few sizable gigs with nothing more than a POD v2 into a 10band eq, into a solidstate power amp and a speaker cab.

Great setup, reliable as taxation and very easy to transport.

Plug that Pod into the effects return of the Marshall, use it as a preamp. Rather than plugging it into the amps input and using it as a pedal.
Get the guitar in the case and hit the road.

As players we really do worry about a lot of nonsense. The quality of effects these days is staggering. A setup doing the same as a POD would have cost a fortune in the early 90's and not performed any better.
We listen for a lot of things that just don't matter to Joe Public. Ok we all want to sound our best, but where do you draw the line?

I used one for a while too. Stuff like that really shines in a gig setting. It's not like in a studio where you isolate and pick apart your tone and nitpick it some more. In a big room, especially a crowded bar, the little subtle intricacies we love to obsess about are meaningless. Lost in the shuffle as it were.

Gigging you just need to find some usable good tones, and not worry about it being perfect. POD's and the like will get you there. Tons of usable tones, in a huge variety of settings, all at the click of a button.

Hey Andy, what a nice twist to this thread with the Germanium Fuzz - I'm sure it sounds real foxy! (why are there no Hendrixy-smilies on this forum? Brad? 8) )
here you go: Image

(suddenly my post looks much more experienced....)

Oh, while I'm here: I was wondering if you knew of any jobs by any chance. I'm checking gumtree etc. regularly but figured it may not hurt to ask the master of the city himself. ;-) I've got some weeks to kill till november and thought maybe you knew of something. Just a wild stab in the dark... If you want to, give me a shout at alex@andersounds.de. :D
anyway, cheers mate! And sorry for bringing the chilly weather! ;)
