Got a patent on it?

If you first wrap the cat in copper wire it could be used to generate electricity, Nobel Prize anyone?

Here's one for you Sir.

How do you feel over tag/turret boards over PCB?

I'd use a turret board if I were building my own amp.

But I don't have anything against amps that use PCBs (as long as there's nothing lacking in the design). I've had good enough success with such.

Yknow how toast always lands butter side down, when you drop it. And how cats always land on their feet.

Do one of you cat owners want to try out my invention. Get some toast, stick it, butter side up to the back of a cat. Then drop the cat.

Antigravitycats.

My cat won't come near me since the last time I tried. I got the weight to butter ratio wrong. Could have done with a few more knobs of butter I expect.

OH MY GOD!!! If we could get it working properly and learn to control it... holy cuckoo-clock, We could travel in time!!!

Not my strat sir.

If AndyBigHair is yoda, I'm the bartender at the Mos Eisely cantina.

In other words, he's far more Jedi than I.

Now come on, every body get a cat and atleast 4 rounds of toast. We'll all meet in Nepal at the top of Everest and see if we can't make it work.

We'd end the fossil fuel crisis. End nuclear power, probably align the planets and bring about the age of Aquarius.

If were really clever, we may even make a few quid.

Howdy!

Blimey! Tings move on bloody quick round here! Very entertaining :D

Apologies

I found out on Wednesday that I'll be project managing £[insert very large sum on money here] worth of refurbishment works on the 80 year old building I look after (eeek!). Works are due to start on the 15th of July so I have very little time to get my head round everything.

This is a big career opportunity for me and if all goes well could lead to other exciting projects. Its come just in time as I was starting to stagnate in my current role (which lead to me building my own guitars) and I hit 30 on Thursday which was my target date to start looking for more challenging work. Quite glad I don't have to worry about looking for another job just yet.

I very much doubt I'll have time to put an update together or work on the Strat much during this busy period. For those of you who haven't made a build thread before, its a lot of work. Just choosing and resizing the pics alone takes quite a bit of time. So sorry about that.

I sure i'll still have time to look in and post my opinion on whether having the trem cover on makes a diffrence or whether i prefer rosewood over a maple fret board! I'll also slap up the odd wiring diagram if requested

Here's a tiny update on where I'm at with the Strat and what I'll be getting on with when I have a bit of free time.

Chapter (4) Body Shaping – Continued

I gave you all a very small peek at my first attempt to build a Strat a few pages back so I'll explain why. Although overall it didn't really work out, the body shaping was a success so I'm keen to recreate/improve these on my current build.

Here's some shots for comparison

Front....

…..and back

Image

And here's a few of the tummy cut and arm rest

Image

I intend to make the tummy cut slightly deeper and the same goes for the arm rest.

Image

Image

These were made with chisels, the block plane, a rasp and a lot of sanding. No power tools used here and I'll be doing the same with the current body. Overall I intend to make the current body more shapely (by that I mean to blend the cut outs more).

The tummy cut and arm rest are pretty standard but its the tapered neck heel which is worthy of note here as its very comfortable to play compared to the standard square block heel.

I'm afraid that all I've got so I'll pad this post out with a tiny bit more info on the first attempt.

My first Attempt – A Quick Peek

I was lucky enough to given a very large piece of what I believe to be very well seasoned African mahogany by a colleague when he found out I was getting into making guitar bodies...which was nice :D . I built the above and my first solid body from that blank.

I rushed my first Strat build which caused some issues later on. The trem posts were not aligned properly and my template for the pup cavities was out with the neck. I also didn't bother to use grain filler which left the body with a less than desirable finish. I have learnt a great deal from these mistakes and believe I now have the ability and more importantly the knowledge to sort it all out largely due to being a member of this forum.

I just wish I'd top routed it and put a pickguard on as it looks so much better.

Image

Image

When I get round to sorting it out I'll post my progress so if it OK with you any further questions regarding this body will have to wait till then.

I'll leave you with this shot of the current body (its my fav pic so far!)

Image

Thanks for all the posts people! :D

Until next time....which could be a while....

Enjoy!

Andy & Randel the Cat (who is as we speak strapping four slices of heavily buttered toast to the neighbours cat in the hope of creating the worlds first cat powered pickup winding machine!)

Edit: Ceri & Impulse7, your both more than welcome to pop down, just give me a bit of warning so Mrs Andybighair has an opportunity to prepare her self for a visit from two gentlemen who are clearly even more geeky than me when it comes to guitars

Don't worry I'm not going to abandon you!

I've booked a few day off here and there so some progress came be made on the Strat. Last week was a killer though. Three 12hr shifts and Saturday morning working to sort out the logistical issues and it looks like that could be the way things are going for the next couple of weeks.

Once the project is up and running my working hours should normalise and I'll be able to continue on the Strat and this thread.

Andy
