(I believe I can think of another Forum user who might appreciate that particular bottle. I wonder if he'll look in...? :D )

Andy, thank you for that timber supplier. That's one I didn't know about and I'm especially interested to read their page about instrument wood. Always good to have as many strings to our bow as possible in that particular department.

And thank you for those extra router table photos. My hopes for this build are soaring! :D 8)

Last thing. Spelling? You should see what my posts look like before they've gone through the spell checker, the dictionary and the wife...! Carry on: you'll never hear spelling criticism from this direcshon, that's for sure.

Now. Go to!

Cheers - C

Dunno why I'm answering that, but I had the idea Andy is in Brighton - no?

By the way, while we're vamping-till-ready, I do like ripitup's location: "The halls of ikea." Very Tolkien! :D

Can't wait to see more of this guitar. I'd post some American ales, but by the time I remember, the Ale is long gone! 8)

Wow

Thanks Mr C, tis a pleasure! This is high praise indeed coming from the Master :D

Breaking News - Security Breach!!!

Randel the Cat has just informed me that the top secret location for my base of operations has been compromised and leaked to the Ninjas!!!

On further investigation we discovered this haunting message left on the router table....

Image

Now, I've only got myself to blame for this lapse in security as Randel was diligently guarding my (rather expensive) African mahogany body blank at the time of the incident.

Image

Well, I think we've all learnt two very valuable lessons here. 1) Don't mess with the Ninjas. 2) If you do, make sure you have Randel the Cat watching your back!

Now to business.....

Chapter (1). Making Templates

I have a spare Strat body that's been knocking around for a few years, which is handy as I can use that as a template for my templates! Now my very brief spell of Aikido training has taught me to always have three points of contact for a solid base so three screws will be holding the perspex to the body for stability. The screw holes will be covered buy a pickgaurd if I ever get round to using this body, so no probs there (though I have read on the Inter-web or on Face- Tube that the extra screw holes can severely compromise the natural sustain.....hehehe! Little bit of I.W.D. for you there! )

Image

Now over to the router table.

With the cutter set to the right height we just push the body round until we're done. It takes less than 10 minuits to make a template. My router table has seriously surpassed my expectations....it totally rocks!

Image

I then made a few copies using the same method so I've got one for the top, one for the back and a top with cavity and neck routes.

Image

For the cavity routes I made a hole big enough for the router bit then dropped it on top and let the cutter find its way around. I wanted to have the option of a H-S-H so i fipped it and routed the bridge humbucker cavity into the neck potion (I forgot to take pics of that...my bad)

Image

Image

Image

Same for the back...

Image

Believe it or not, there are three templates in the pic below, they're just a complete pig to photograph!

Image

These are the best I could get...sorry about that

Image

Image

I think they've turned out pretty well! With the templates made we can start chopping into that lovely piece of mahogany.

That's all I've got for you today....

Whoops..I almost forgot!

Seeing as today went as well as it did I'm going to treat myself to a wee drab of ten year old......

Image

Slurp...Aaahhh! Very nice...very nice indeed!

Coming up next time...Chapter (2)....eerrr...Pending...(I haven't decided what I'm going to call it yet!)

Thanks again everyone! I'll do my best to keep up the high standards held in these prestigious forums :D

Enjoy!

Andy

Thanks DetroitBlues,

It looks better in the pics than it really is. The quilted maple vener is very very thin and though i'm not a massive fan of it, It was cheap at the time. Still nice to have and it came in very handy!

Enjoy!
