Just got a 1989 $@! Strat

needs a small bit of a setup.

Anyway the trem arm is very high up when put in and the guy who i got it off said the guy who he got it off "Locked" the tremelo .

Not sure what he is referring to but what does it mean?

Its just a 6 screw bridge not locking anything etc.

Locked? Blocked? You're probably right.

What that means is that he's inserted a small bit of wood in between the tremolo block and the side of the body cavity to prevent the block moving longitudinally within the cavity. All you have to do is pop it out, and then set the guitar up how you prefer. Or you could leave it in: if it's good enough for Clapton, it's good enough for me!

look in the back of the axe into the trem cavity, if there is a wood block there its blocked.
Otherwise the guy may have just clamped it down with a load of springs and screwed the bridge down and tight as could be.

Damn it Vulkan!

Hi slashfm212r: or to add to what the others are saying, I wonder if in this case it just means the springs under their cover at the back have been tightened to bring the plate of trem unit down flat to the front of the guitar?

People usually call that a "non-floating" trem, or sometimes a "blocked" trem, whether or not there is actually a wooden block inserted into the cavity as Vulkan and ClassicRock92 are saying.

It would be completely wrong to call it a "locked" trem - but people don't always know what they're talking about.

The essential test: can you pull on the trem arm to bend notes up, as well as pressing to bend the notes down? Or is down the only option?

Cheers - C

Thanks for the replies ,

Anyway im pretty on the ball with guitars thanks

No theres no wood or anything in the cavity , ive re-arranged the springs so their on 2nd , 3rd and 4th positions -didnt do anything .

The bridge is just about off the body , im thinking the actual 6 screws on the bridge are too tight or something .

Thanks for the help but my uncles friend has fixed things like this for me before and its been alright but thanks anyway
