Either he learned it from Jimi or the other way around...I heard that Jimi picked it up from the old blues and R&B guys.....Buddy Guy being one.

I saw Ernie Isley when he cam to town as part of the Experience Hendrix tour and was totally impressed by him.He mentioned that Jimi lived with them for a short time when he was younger.
