I have a strat that has the trem blocked with a sized bit of wood in the cavity. Does anyone have any tricks to removing it - it is really wedged in there good and I cant seem to get a good grip on it. I could try leveraging it from the side (underneath the block) but that is going to put all the pressure on the side of the cavity (i.e. on the body) and its going to indent the wood.

so, how the hell do you get one of these things out??

Hi ufboy73: ha, well that is a new one on me. I guess it would be easy to just drill a little hole in the block, drive in a three inch screw and then use that as a handle to pull on? Gently does it: don't want to rip out a chunk of lacquer that has stuck itself to the surface of the block over time. E-e-e-ease it out...

You could also unscrew the trem's six screws (or two posts, depending) from the front and see if that loosens things enough that the trem block and wooden block move against one another a bit.

Good luck - C

for one are you for sure you want it out? i have a block in mine and it makes the sustain, response and tuning so much better, but i dont like to use the trem...

anyway if you are set on using the trem i would do as the other dude said and put a screw in it and use that to pull it out, but before that put your whammy bar in it, take the backplate off, face the back toward the ground then pull the whammy as far backward as you can and it might just fall out.

Have you tried putting the trem arm into it's hole and pulling back (as though you'd create a raise in pitch) whilst you try to lever the block out.

Is this on one of your Clapton guitars? Them thinner blocks for the vintage trems are a real game to get out.
