I have recently just purchased a loaded fender pickguard with texas special's and a super switch which makes the 2 position include the neck and bridge. I have an 08 Mexican hss special edition strat, and i despise the humbucker lol because when i bought it i was makin the transition from metal to blues now i mainly play blues with a lil country and have no need for a humbucker. I like keeping things original but I love the texas special's sound, what should i do leave it be or change it for the better imho.

Make the change. If you hate the humbucker why leave it on. I don't think mods affect the value of MIM strats negatively. You have it for playing, not as a collector piece. Slap those badboys on. You could always put it back to original if you find a need. What color pickguard did you get?

Nice lookin' Strat, by the way.

Change it!

I'm usually one for saying "leave it stock", but in this case it's different. Some might say that a Strat without three single-coils is not a Strat. Go for the Texas Specials; you won't regret it.

And don't worry about resale value. A modification of the type you're planning on will probably increase the value of your instrument, if only because of the new, better pickups.

Texas Specials are awesome! You won't regret putting them on, and they sound perfect for blues and even country. Although if you can, I'd suggest that you wire the bridge pickup to one of the tone controls so that you can take a little of the bite off if you need to. It's really twangy.

I too make the transition from metal to blues. Trust me, you have no need of a humbucker. Just a good overdrive and a Strat will get you there. :)

You won't want to play a guitar you're not happy with. Make the change and you'll have a great sounding guitar that looks killer too. Besides, you can always change it back if you need to to.

Without doubt, do the change. Personally I am not a big fan of Texas Specials (if you want to know why read the discussion entitled "Is current trend of Staggered Pole Pickups a backward step?") but in your case I would give it the green light. Reason being, is that the Mexican Strats are constructed well with good timbers and the one item the degrades them from the US Strats are the pickups. You will find that the Texas Specials are much brighter and sensitive than the Mexican ones and will make your guitar sound like any other good US Strat.

Regards,

Martin.

Thanks for the input guys, i appreciate it. I agree that it should definitely raise the value a little being its texas specials. Right now the loaded pickguard is just the parchment white but if i dont like it i might go ahead and buy the toiseshell or a perloid. I can't wait for the pups to get here i'm ready to hear them, and i'll be sure to post an update on them and maybe a video as well. Thanks for the advice

And i definitely agree, one of the main reason i haven't been playing this guitar is because i don't like the sound so i'm glad i've decided to make the change now it'll look good and sound even better.

If you are unhappy with your current guitar's set-up, I'd switch them. You will never be happy with your guitar until you truely make it your own. I have Texas Specials in one of my guitars and I am extremely happy with them. I can play Blues, Metal, Rock with them (of course you can do that wit any guitar/setup as long as you can play that style).

If you have a loaded pickguard, how about installing a quick disconnect on the grounding wire(s)? That way you can switch out your loaded pickguards when the mood strikes for a different sound. I know when I changed out my HWY 1 from a SSS to a HSS, I wish I had put in a quick disconnect system so I could switch them out when ever I wanted to.

In the end it is your guitar, and a nice looking one at that. Please post updated pics when you are done.

Change them and keep all the original parts with it (which will maintain the value of it).

If anything, you're upgrading the electronics. You're not hurting the guitar value at all. I switched from a Lonestar to Roadhouse Strat because I couldn't stand the HSS configuration. I have a Les Paul for those days I need a little more bite in my playing. Texas Specials are great pickups as long as you adjust the string height and pickups correctly. You can't go wrong with an upgrade.

how exactly would i do the quick disconnect system i'm kind of new at this lol. btw the loaded pickguard should be coming in today so i'll be sure to have some pics posted. Can't wait to see what the texas specials sound like in this strat i know they sound great in my srv strat. One more thing in my opinion no offense to hss strats because i love my american one, to me the single coils just make the strat look better idk i might be crazy lol.
