Hello everyone. Just a quick question. How can you tell between American made and Mexican/other made pickups?

I recently purchased a 96 American Strat, but I don't really know how to tell if the electronics are authentic.

Here's a link to some photos of the electronics.

Thank you for your help!

Joshua

I had a quick look at your photos and yours are definitely US pickups. Mexicans have magnet poles that rise and fall with the camber of your fretboard and have two bar magnets on the underside. Squeir pickups have look similar to US pickups but have a bar magnet on the underside (as do many other makes of cheaper copy pickups). You will also find that only pickup covers that are made for the genuine US pickups, will fit the magnet positions on the US pickups. The rest are spaced differently. Hope this helps,

Martin.

I have an 1995 American Strat and have the same pickup as you.

I should tell : I had, because I replace them. They are so cheap since I listen to a 57/62 Fender pickups on a friend Strat.

Look, these pickups look cheap as they are

I bought JS Moore pickups. What a sound !!!

Make a gift to you and discover a new, high end guitar; replace your pickups with good ones

Not really wishing to go head to head with another forum member, but that advice of changing your pickups is rubbish. Those pickups that you have in your Strat are perfectly good top end Fender piickups and you can alter the sound by raising and lowering them to suit your taste. I do custom, repair work, set ups, refrets etc in a professional capacity and I swear by those pickups that you have as being the one of the best standard single coils produced by Fender. If you would like some worthy info on setting up pickups, check out the link....

Guys before there's any mention of any kind of head to head please understand something. English is not everyone's first language. Consequently we often misinterpret others intentions. Let's face it when text is the only available medium, its hard to accurately interpret people's intent who do speak English as a first language.

Not lecturing, just pointing it out cos I thought Stratele's post to be a tad harsh. Then I realized that he's not being harsh at all, his previous contributions have all been of a friendly nature. I realized that I should remember a few things too.

Merci (thats about all the French I know. Maybe cos I need some mercy).

merci nikininja pour votre intervention.

Thank's nikininja for your last post.

Yes like it's write, it's not easy and some times very difficult to explain friendly and with "nuance" what is my experience (in this case with my Strat pickups). When english is not my first language , many time I don't know the right word to explain what I feel

J'ai habite a Montreal pendant 7 ans et c'etait toujours difficile. C'etait drole, la plusparts des temps nous avons parler avec deux langues et a changer entre les deux. (Francais ce n'est pas ma premiere langue :) )

When I live in Montreal, we would often switch back and forth between english and french using the language that best.

As for the guitar topic, pickups often are not the best choice for upgrades...I have had positive and negative experiences in changing pickups. I think that much like everything else these days we often find name brands influencing our thinking.

Stratele52...Si tu as besoin d'aide peutetre je peut t'aide dans le futur. A bientot.

Cheers all.

Are you serious when you said these pickups are good top end ?

I Love Fender products, I have 2 tele and 3 strat, one Jaguar and one Jazzmaster and many amps all us made. But when I ear a better pickup I know is not a question on raising or lowering.

And sometimes I must admit Fender make some weak or cheap parts

Merci nicholson pour ton offre, c'est généreux.

Malheureusement ce ne sera pas pratique si tu me sers d'interprète.

Ce serais trop long et j'arrive a me débrouiller pour me faire comprendre assez bien la plupart du temps.

Thank's nicholson for your help offer.

Would be too long for me to wait your help

Stratele

I can assure you mate, those American Standard pickups are just as good as anything else available.

OK you may find other pickups that better suit your needs, but those Standard pickups are of no less quality.

Personaly I'm with Martin on this. Theres a lot of room for improvment without spending any money, except for buying a screwdriver.

Sjtalon
The delta tone, is all in the delta tone pot. It's got nothing to do with the pickups mate. The American Deluxe has a delta tone control but uses different pickups. I even wired it into my pieced together clapton style strat for a while.

Don't forget that I'm talking only about the pickups I had on my 1995 Strat.

I do not said that all strat, any years , have cheap pickups.
