I just picked up this MiM at a yard sale, It has is an 2005-2006 ser#, with the humbucker in the bridge position. Color is black, neck is maple, pick/electronics guard is 3 ply white. How can I distinguish between the standard and fat-strat designations?

A little help would be appreciated.

Hi johnny and welcome. The regular Strat comes with three single coils pickups. The HSS (fat Strat)comes with a humbucker in the bridge position with two single coils pickups in the middle and neck position and the hard tail has a fixed bridge without tremolo. Hope this helps. :)

Fixed Bridge ??:

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/StratFatRBlk/

I believe the only hard tail is the American (Double Fat)

I think the term "Fat Strat" is used loosely though.

HNGD !!

I did fail to mention that the bridge is a tremolo, set up. The link in the above post description is a fat strat but shows a guitar with a tremolo bridge. SO that doesnt make it that clear either.

Its definatly a MIM, Standard, HSS,

I'm still not certain about that "fat Strat" designation.

Thanks for the response so FAR

Your welcome.

Like I said >I think the term "Fat Strat" is used loosely though. <

Kinda like any catchy name that gets to be the label for everything like it..................Vice Grip, Crescent Wrench, ect.,.

There is a parts page of a MIM from 2000 using the term Fat Strat;
http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/ ... 02CPg1.pdf

Now I believe any of the MIM's are just called Standard Series HSS per the spec anyway:

Nope, the hardtail(fixed bridge) was also available for the Robert Cray strat and they used to have an American Hardtail that was a fixed bridge version of the American Series.

Sorry not to be more clear.

I was referring to the only FAT STRAT that was a hard tail.

Fat strats have a humbucker in the bridge. HSS. There is a double fat, or Big Apple strat, which is two humbuckers only (HH Strat).

Thank you Eddy.
I don't know why that always confuses people.
