I've never heard an "official" explanation as to why the finish between frets 9 and 12 are not "worn" as the rest of the fretboard on Road Worn Strats and Teles.
Anyone at Fender know?

I dunno, but I like how the bare wood feels on my 60s roadworn. I'm getting such incredible tone with it.

Check it out.

You can feel the very grain of the wood on my 60s roadworn. Dirt has already accumulated within the grain, very doubt that there was any clear coat on "the bare wood" part. I've had my roadworn now for about a year, and prefer to play it over my american standard and american deluxe strat.

It's a sealer, not a clear coat, though a clear coat will seal. The stuff is harder than polyester. All the FMIC brands use similar on their budget instruments. It's a pain to shift.
