I'm just curious what kind of Strat I have. I bought it when I was a teenager back in the early to mid 90's. It is a mexi, HSS. It is all black, rosewood fretboard, 1 volume knob, 1 tone knob, and a coil tap where the second tone knob usually is. I know it came this way because I bought it brand new. Original box, still had protective plastic on the pickguard and original stickers on it. It came straight from Guitar Center. I haven't seen another one like it though and was curious what model of Strat it was.

Can you post pics of it?

We need pics!
Does your Strat have a Kahler or Floyd Rose trem? When you say "all black", do you mean the headstock too? Coil tap too....hmmm...could be an HM Strat. That's just a shot in the dark though. Pics or a more detailed description would be helpful.

I know it is not the floyd rose trem. The body and pickguard are black. Fretboard is rosewood. Neck is light colored as is the headstock. Fender on headstock is gold. That's all I think I can describe without pics.

That's a sharp looking guitar. I have not seen a Strat that came with a coil tap before. I used to have a Tele with a switch like that. According to that serial number it was manufactured in 95-96 according Fender's website. Hope that helps a little.

I haven't either. I did see that chart with the dates so I know the years. I just don't know what it is. I'm sure it must have a model name. Is it a fat strat? Something different? I have no clue.

I tried to pull up a google image of one like yours and couldn't find anything. Looks to be a rare one. If you google strat coil tap you get directions on how to make your own, but nothing on a factory one.

I noticed that too. I spent a lot of time trying to search the net to find out what it is. Every time you google strat coil tap you get a lot of webpages on how to add a coil tap, but I could not find one picture or site describing a Strat that came straight from Fender with a coil tap and only 1 tone knob.

Nice guitar, shows its been around for a while with the rusty pickguard screws. Nothing like that vintage feel for one cool blackout strat!

Thanks. I love it. 7 or 8 years ago I had it sitting on the couter at Center to trade it in on a black Les Paul Studio, but didn't pull the trigger. Glad I didn't. Never trade your first electric guitar (i've since decided to keep them all). :-) Does anyone else on here have one like this?

I parted out my first guitar. I didn't mean to, but I was planning on making a custom partcaster guitar. My guitar was a 1991 Aria Pro II JS Series. HSS configuration. I sold the neck because it had that Jackson reverse headstock thing (but it had a really chuncky C profile! Miss that!). I traded the neck so I could have the pickup routes cut better to match Fender single coils. I got rid of the original pickups because they were just junk. Then I sold the tremolo because I wanted gold tremolo. My intention was to place a flammed maple veneer top on the guitar, keep the HSS configuration and add a mighty mite neck. Unfortunately, it never got there. Ended up selling the body for $40. So much for that guitar (that was last year BTW)... So now, all I have is the memories of playing Smoke On The Water over and over again...
