I have a Black and Chrome Squier Standard Tele and a Fender MIM 48th street Brilliant Yellow(awesome looking)Strat and I can honestly say that I enjoy the Squier more. Why??? I just restringed them both with 10's. The Squier with DR Black Beauties(cause they look great on the Black and Chrome) and the Strat with D'addario XL10's. I have them both setup with the action at about 5/64's at the 12th fret. I haven't measured the neck relief, but the strat has a slight dip at around the 10-17 fret area when looking down the neck from the rear of the guitar with the strings as a straight line reference, and the Tele seems like it does not curve much at all. But has no fret buzz at all, I can strum it as hard as I want and no fret buzz. I don't know if the Strat is just natrually more buzzy then a Tele, but the Squier just plays much better then the Strat. I am getting serious fret buzz on the Strat from frets 9 to 17. I have the trem screwed down to the body, should I try letting it float a little like Fender says to set it up? I almost feel guilty that I like playing my 230 dollar Squier much more than my 500 dollar Strat. I almost want to trade it in for a Squier CV Tele. Any opinions??

Take it to a decent tech and get a proper setup done. IMHO... you've buggered it up to the point it's unplayable. You can't just put the bridge to the body without setting the string to fret and pickup heights back to spec. 8)

Yeah, the only reason you're getting buzz on the Strat is because of the set up. If you're not able to do a set up on your own I would strongly advise taking it to a shop. A few turns here and there will have it playing nicely.

Oh yeah, metal strings against metal frets......you're always going to have some sort of buzz going on. Absolute zero buzz is impossible.

I agree with the others about getting a good setup done to your Strat and then see how they compare. I had a MIM Standard Strat once that had no fret buzz and rang like a bell after a good setup.

But it's not out of the ordinary for a particular guitar to sound or play better than another guitar, no matter the cost. In my opinion no two peices of wood are the same. Guitars are made of wood, therefore, no two guitars are exactly alike, even the same model. You happen to have a very nice Squier, so enjoy it!

I raised the strings to about 3/32's t the 12th fret(a tad higher than Fender's spec of 5/64th's.) and I believe that it plays like butter now!!!Does anyone think that 3/32's is too high? I kinda like the higher action, you can dig in alittle more!!!and the strings seem to ring out better!.

I like higher action because it reduces buzz and it just feels right to me. And I have a Squier Affinity Strat that I like as much as my MIM Fender. There's nothing to be ashamed of in that. :D

My friend you are still missing the point it does not matter what your string height measurement is...You still have your tremolo pressed flat against the body which will kill your sustain let alone render your tremolo unusable...

Take your guitar into a tech and have them do a complete setup including taking the bow out of your neck with a truss rod adjustment...

As far as which guitar is better is a choice for the individual..Some people only like SG's some only like hollow bodies some like Tele's some like Strats..Myself i like them all

Im with the rest. Have it set up. Most shops will do a full set up free, if you bought the guit there.
Many techs will explain everything they did & walk you through the process.

If you want to do it yourself there are many places on the net to learn all the steps involved. It is a step by step process & require some tools to do it correctly.

It seems to me you might have neck relief &/or saddle height issues.

I have a squier Strat that I like just as much as my MIM . . . uh, wait, Idon't have an MIM. But I do love my Squier Strat.

And more to the point, yeah, get that guitar setup properly & you'll have two guitars to love.

No you can like it all you want...But what we are saying is you aren't getting the full range of what the guitar can do ..
To put it another way....Lets say you just bought a bad $@! hot rod car...You really like the car after putting air in the tires but if you gave the car a tune up changed the air filter and put transmission fluid in ..The you can really see what the car is capable of..
You see were i'm going with this..You have adjusted the string height and got the Buzz out of the strings but the action is higher than it should be....If you take the bow out of the neck set the saddle height have the Intonation set adjust the spring tension to correct settings so your tremolo is now off the guitar body now you can see what the guitar can really do...
