hi new to the forum, i was just wondering if anyone would suggest me changing my capacitors to go along with my new pickups? i replaced the single coils in my american standard with single coil sized humbuckers and i was wondering if i should replace them to boost them up at all. any opinions?

Check what your pickups builder said.

In my opinion you don't need to change the tone capacitor unless you whant upgrade it in quality

.022 micro farrad is fine. it works well with any humbucker type pickup. it's also sort of the standard in most guitars. older fenders had .01's that rolls off more highs the .022's tend to roll off highs but leave a little more midrange fequencies. also the tone pots you use make a difference. humbuckers usualy work best with 500k and single coils 250k. that goes for volume as well.

i was just wondering if new caps would go better with the new humbuckers compared to caps for single coils. like upgrading to .022 PIO's?

Yes you need 500k ohms pots, whith the 250k you'll kill the high and humbucker don't have much high.

What's the maker of your humbucker ? It would be easy to help you

so you would also suggest getting some 500k pots to go along with it? i just ordered some CTS audio taper's a couple of weeks ago for a different guitar so think i might buy another pack for my strat then, thanks.

theyre seymour duncan JB jr's. i wanted to try out a different kind of sound with this strat because i plan on buying a new strat sometime this summer(deluxe ash model if i can hope to even afford it) so thought id try out humbuckers. they sound good so far, really love the tone.

Welcome!

Keep in mind that although a humbucker, the JB and JB Jr were specifically designed around 250K pots. Many people bristle at the high mids spike with this pickup and that's because they use 500K pots with it instead of the 250Ks. You may want to stick with 250Ks. Additionally, I'm about to say the same thing about your capacitor: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

YMMV.

This is a classic example of certain rules (pickup strength vs. pot values) not being absolutes.
