Hey all,
I bought and just finished the Strat Chronicles. This book is awsome at how detailed it is. I was amazed at learning the rich and dramtic history of my favorite guitar company. If you have not had a chance to check this book out I highly suggest it. For a hardcore Fender Fan it's a must have!

Leo Fender was almost deaf to piont that early fenders were to shrill on the high end until others in the shop convinced him to alter the tunings. He used to hold a screww driver to his ear and the sting and listen to the vibration to make adjustments to the set of a guitar. He also could not play or even tune a guitar. The book is filled with hundreds of photos and interviews.

Its definitely a "coffee table" book with some great pics of Strats and historical artists.

Also known as "strat porn."

I love the quotes in the Stevie Ray Vaughn section. Someone well known (I can't remember who) said he was jamming with Stevie one day when they decided to trade guitars. So Stevie handed him his Number 1 and the strings were so thick, the action so high, that he called it "unplayable." He felt like a 10 year old kid who just picked up a guitar for the first time.

Then Ted Nugent's quote was something like, "Man, I picked up Stevie's guitar once, and I could not bend those strings to save my LIFE, man."

Cool book. Worth the money.

The bunus? It comes with a CD where our friend Greg Koch immitates dozens of different famous strat players. You name it, and their sound is represented on the CD. He even includes a little explanation before each sound, sometimes letting you know the effects used, the 5 way switch settings, etc. Plus a few inteviews with Leo himself on the CD.

Good Christmas gift (for yourself). ;)

There was one quote from Leo that while everyone was eating hot soup, he had a cold sandwich. When asked why, he replied that he could buy a handful of resistors for the price of hot soup.

I thought that was cool.
