Hi, anyone out there with a highway one model?I was wondering what type of polish you have used for basic cleaning without reprecussions.I just bought some mcguire fender kit and i either misused it but it is crap.It gave my guitar a shine but it smells funky,is greasy and gave my guitar crater like bubbles.I have heard gibson pump polish is made for nitro??Fender brand??Thanks!!!

Ahhh man that sucks…..although I don’t have a highway 1 I do have a few other strats. I have never used the mcguire polish. I do use the Gibson pump polish and have never had any issues with it. A lot of time I use a bit of windex and a dry rag to wipe up dust and finger smears as I don’t think its too healthy to polish too frequently. I have never heard anything bad about the mcguire polish but again I have never used it.. seems like you may have got a bad batch (if that is even possible) I would recommend tossing it and trying something else…
Welcome to the forum by the way and best of luck with your issue.. I would be curious to see some pictures of these bubbles/craters…..that should just not happen….

Cheers
Bill

I have a little pump bottle of Fender Guitar Polish that I bought years and years ago. Never had any problems with it.

Yep, I agree with the Gibson Pump Polish. I use it on my Gibson SG as well as my Strat and it works a treat.

I have used the Mcguire 3 in 1 kit for over a decade and never had a problem. I am not that familiar with Highway 1 models but am I wrong or are they lightly sprayed with Nitro to relic faster as I know one of the models are. If that is the case you may be over polishing your guitar which is having a bad effect on the finish. I polish my guitars once a year or if they are going to be in the case for a lengthy time. As I just use the Mcguire Mist and Wipe after playing.

My sweat would have worn your cloth out. Hehe.

I use Big Bends gloss sauce. I use a washable fleece cloth like a thick version of the Fender one (microfiber works well also). One side for wiping the sauce on removing the dust and dirt. Then I flip it and polish with the dry side.

On guitars that have satin finish I would just wipe it down or use the cloth moistened with luke warm water (but wrung out well) and then dry the guitar immediately. Anything too vigorous will give satin a shine.

I use this stuff- it works better than the mist & wipe that Fender and Meguiars did- it costs twice as much as that tiny little bottle too and its going to last a damn long time I must say- I recommend this to anyone. Im not soo sure about using it on a matte nitro finish though- but remember the matte finishes will wear eventually anyway :)
