Unfortunatly for me it has to be the older model (1997 I think it was ?) I just can't see past it.

The build quality, finish and feel of this guitar is amazing. Although I have never even touched the newer model I can only assume it is not as good due to the first one being so damn good !

Am I right with saying the new one is MIM ?

yea, MIM.. actually I am right now looking on the guitar comparing it visually with one American Deluxe model and I do not see any bigger differences in details, the materials used are not bad as well.

..also I haven't ever seen model from '97 ^^ the one I have in a hand is 2007.

About the playing.. I really like it.. it's so "soft" and sensitive.. you need to be careful of every move to do not play $@!&, but it is not a problem.. its a + ^^

The only minus of this guitar I noticed is too noisy bridge humb.. where the neck pickup is quite quiet.. How the picks configuration looked in the older models??

They are top quality MIM strats, good pick-ups too :)

The only thing they fall short on is the fact that the colour range sucks... I remember when they were new in '97- the range of colours were just wicked. CAR, Surfpearl, Gun Metal, Sienna etc...

They were cool, still- todays incarnations represent excellent value though :)

I bought it.. I tried some deans guitar.. some other stratocasters.. some telecasters.. and I liked the Lone Star mostly.. even people saying it has some bad things I don't agree.. I spent 4h in a shop.. playing this guitar.. at the beginning was a little bit confused.. but after 1 hours I started to feel this guitar and all the rest was going easy.. I can recommend with a pride :) but remember.. this is a guitar for a patient guitar players :)

I had a Lonestar for about three months (2008 MIM). The high e was aweful (very low output) on the neck pickup. Tried a few more Lonestar's with the same problem. The Texas Specials didn't work well on these run MIM strats. The humbucker drowned out the neck and middle pickups when switching back and forth. I ended up with 2007 Roadhouse Strat. Texas Specials sounded much better on this then a Lonestar, no idea why. I missed the rosewood fretboard, but just recently swapped the maple roadhouse for a rosewood Lonestar neck. Now I have the best of both guitars...

Well, I figured it out as well, but with my one wasn't that much terrible.. really.. I'll try to leave you all sample of sound here.. anyway.. I corrected it a bit by connecting it by direct from PODx3Live to Yamaha Stagepas 150W synthesizer and then to the Marshall MG100FX 2x12" to the mp3 input to reduce useless noise (as I don't use any integrated AMP controls) + 2 Yamaha Speakers and I need to tell you I am happy, the Lone Star is very playable guitar but require more attention.
However, I am not saying the Lone Start is best ever.. but it is really nice guitar.

P.S. I reconfigured the pickups a bit, I took higher the neck single and a bit lower the bridge humbucker.
