Does it have the felt washers? If so take them off and your problem will be fixed.

also one thing you can do it take the srew all the way out and take a tooth pick and add a drop of elmers glue on it, then push it in the hole and cut off any excess sticking out, then put the srew back in and tighten it down snug. This will take up any slack in the hole securing the screw and will set the screw firmly.

The screw really isn't loose in the hole. I had thought about dropping a bit of wood glue in the hole.

Thats exactly what I'd do. Or better still, dip the screw in the wood glue.

I had this problem with my American Standard Strat.

What I had to do was the following;

1. Get a Match Stick and cut it to size for the hole, normally it should take the two halves of the one match.

2. Dip it in some Aqadeer glue and push them into the strap button hole.

3. Let it set for about 30 minutes, then with the felt washer included screw back into the hole your strap button.

This sounds like a lot of work but it is simple. Make sure that you are very careful not to over do it with glue.

Keep a damp cloth on hand for glue spillage.

Since I have done mine which have Schaller strap locks, I have not had a problem.

Good Luck.

I had the same problem on one of my guitars. Here's what i did, I took the screw completely out, move it over about a half inch and screw it into the new spot. Problem solved. Except for the extra hole now that is.

Just kidding! I would never do that. But I have look at guitars on craigslist where people have done that.

I vote for the toothpick. I use 2 toothpicks though. Just force them down into the hole, cut them off, screw back in. Done.

or contact Ceri, he probably has custom made dowels that fit right down in there :P

I use the toothpick and glue method with my Schaller's. I leave the felt on too.

Thought I would report back. I tried the tootpick and glue method and played her for a couple hours last night. So far so good! Thanks to all for the assistance.

Good news!!!! It has always worked for me!

You could try welding the screw to the strap lock and then it won't spin... NO NO... just kidding.

Yep, toothpicks are perfect for that job. I've done it a billion times and have never had to work on the same guitar twice.

Interesting problem: I have a new American Deluxe Strat which comes with Schaller strap locks. After each session I notice that the screw on the post on the top horn has loosened just enough so that the post spins. I tighten it up very snuggly, but am careful to avoid stripping the wood. Next time after I play the screw has loosened again.

First off this is a pain, but what I am most concerned about is that the situation will worsen, and either the guitar will drop, or the hole will end up stripped.

Any thoughts on how to remedy this :??

This may have been answered already, but put a toothpick in the screw hole with a little wood glue. Be sure to apply a little wax around the hole (but not in it!) to prevent glue getting on the finish. Break the toothpick off inside the hole. Let it dry for a while. Rescrew in the strap button and you should be good to go. If it is still a little loose, apply another toothpick. Be sure to wipe of the wax when your done (wax prevents glue from sticking to the finish)

You know, it's very "elementary school" but whenever I've done this I always just use Elmer's standard white glue like you used when you were a kid. Works as well as any other glue out there *AND* you could smear it all over the guitar and it won't do anything to the finish. Peels right off.
