Yep,those features together really appealed to me.I am not a big fan of the 7.25 raduis, but I will play a 9.5 all day long. And I like the tall frets.I havent had a chance to hear the 50s custom shop pickups in person, but everyone tells me they are great.I picked the white blonde one because I really like the finish.I think it will be a great addition.

I think it's just an issue of getting used to the 7.25. my '57RI is 7.25 and for me it was just a matter of getting accustomed to it. It bothers me not one bit anymore.
I am sure you are probably right.I have 2 other guitars with 9.5 and one with a 12" radius and the 12 took some getting used to .I really like the SRV profile neck as opposed to the modern C. I like necks that are thick , but not real wide, and of course 6105 frets.

I have been looking at a 59 thinskin strat .Apparently its a limited run American Vintage Series with a "modified "SRV neck with 6105 frets and a 9.5 radius fretboard.Just would like someones thoughts on the limited run thinskins. The guy told me they limit these to around 100 .I thought it would be a good compliment to my SRV due to the face that changing from the SRV to a modern C neck is such a drastic change.Anyone have any experiences with these guitars? Thanks in advance.

I was looking on Wildwood's website at these, because they have a nice selection of them. Are they still being made, or are these from an original run? If they were produced in such a limited number, I'm not sure why a bunch would still be available - it seems that they'd be bought up pretty quickly.

I dont know if they are still being made, but mine was made in 07.I believe this is from the original run of 200 or so.

Just looking at some '54's online.... not impressed with the body wood matching. Some sloppy bodies.

3 pieces in some cases on a 2 tone sunburst that really do not work well together...

Example:

Just bugs me.... nice guitars though.

Yeah,..and some are Alder, earlier ones were all Ash.Also some have the "correct" string tree (round) and others I have seen do not.
I think this is due to the fact that they've been available since '07,all the "good looking" ones are gone?

PS: the pickups are CS 50's,.which are not available by themselves (aftermarket).

Mine,bought in '07 below.

I believe that I just purchased one of these. I had a 2002 AV62RI in Oly White which I was forced to sell during the bush financial meltdown when I was unemployed. This left me Stratless for a long time, till I ran across this guitar a friend of mine had, in two tone sunburst. It came with a tweed case, unlike the brown case that came with my '62 RI, but its case candy was almost identical. One exception though, was that it had a little certificate, that says "Fender Factory Special Run This is to certify that your '57 Stratocaster with thin-skin lacquer is part of a limited run of 180 instruments." Below that is a hand-written Production date of 2/2006.
My '62 Stratocaster was my favorite guitar, so I was seriously depressed about losing it. This guitar is a lot different in some ways, maple neck, soft V shape, bigger frets, and a bit different character than the pickups in my '62, but I'm really loving it. Not sure if this is true, but if feels like the neck on this one is wider. I used to really love the "C" neck, but I'm liking the feel of this chunkier neck a LOT and it has a bite that I really love! I will try to post some pictures when I get batteries for my camera, but it looks very much like the one posted above... I don't think the original owner played this one much, the neck is still a bit sticky, and he told me he was going back to restoring cars, that he couldn't make any music with it. Fortunately, I'm not having any problems with that part!

Yup,..you have a '57 Thinskin,.should have a 7.25 neck radius,and 57/62 pups,with beveled pole pieces
..I had one,but sold it after getting the '54.

Also the '57 is Alder,.and the '54 is Ash bodied.

Look like this?

So mine has the 57/62 RI pickups, just like I had in my dearly departed '62 RI? It sounds a bit different, but that could be due to having a different amp for it....Either way, 57/62s or Custom '50s, I think I'll keep her!
