from Wikipedia

Gers is a long time proponent of the Fender Stratocaster. His Stratocasters are typically black or white with rosewood fingerboards. He uses Seymour Duncan JB Jr.(currently) or Hot Rails (early 1990s) pickups. His favourite guitar over the years has been a black Fender Stratocaster, equipped with JB Jr. pickups.[1] Gers uses four different Fender Stratocasters and also a Gibson Chet Atkins semi-acoustic model for songs such as "Dance of Death". Like his bandmate Dave Murray, Gers currently uses the Marshall JMP-1 preamp through a Marshall 9200 (discontinued) poweramp. He uses Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Nickel-wound guitar strings, he doesn't use the B strings however, so the strings go 10-10-17-26-36-46.

...

basicallly no matter what model ( vintage , american standard, california , lone star or whatever strat it is ... the single coil pickup are switch so the sound your looking for come from the duncan Hot rails or Seymour duncan Jeff beck JR ( both pickup are humbuckers that fit in a single-coil space . )

you wont get the maiden sound ( be it Dave murray , adrian smith or janick gers ).. with a single coil strat . they use high output humbucker in regular strat .

You would be close with an american standard HSS or american deluxe HSS .

I personnaly dont play single coil pickup ... only HSS stratocaster as im into punk , metal , grunge etc.. . thats what you need for metal , hard rock .
You dont really need to know the exact model of strat .. only the exact pickup . and its either Seymour Duncan JB JR or Hot rails .

seymour duncan jeff beck Sh-4 into any strat is a winning combinaison . very versatile humbucker . I dont know if the JR is as good as the full size .

But get an HSS strat if you play hard rock /metal .
