Are you referring to the plastic cover on the back over the springs or the"ash tray" over the bridge assembly?

I leave mine on - and I don't hear a difference when it's off after tinkering with it...

My three stay on as much because I'd probably misplace them and/or the screws if I left them off for convenience. I'd challenge anyone to say they can hear the difference one way or the other.

Mine stays on, but I have had it off and on a lot lately while experimenting with the number of springs installed. Even though I have the trem blocked and locked down tight, I do detect a slight difference in sound between 3 and 5 springs.

All 4 of mine are off. No particular reason. I don't hear any difference in tone.

Left one of mine off recently and managed to pull the grounding wire off the trem claw with my belt..

Any guitar that I buy with a trem on it gets that plate taken off as soon as I get it out of the case. I don't like having the plate on the back. All aesthetic of course. I don't think it changes the sound one way or the other, I just like the look of a guitar minus the cover. I keep the one on my EC though because the battery is inside there. I'm tempted to send it to Ceri to have him put a battery box on it for me. hahaha!!!

Routing the wire under the trem springs eliminates that problem. 8)
