I'm working on Gilmour licks a lot for the past few days. What have you been playing?

I cheat a little on one from The Wall where he bends three notes after he picks the first note. I pick the first and bend up for the other two.

Gilmour's my hero. I love doin those 3 step bends. That's how to make a stratocaster cry.

What I've been working on lately? Beautiful fingerpickin in DADGAD and Open G. Those open tunings make for some wonderful chord progressions.

I'm getting ready for my Christmas Extravaganza gigs

followed by a New Year's resolution to never commit to these anymore.

I'm stealing rhythm licks from Prince and acoustic guitar techniques from Snuffy Walden, working on a pair of very divergent jingles this half of the month.... one for a small chain of carpet stores and the other for a bank (guess which style is for which). :D

Working on rhythm chords with some Jimi, and some Clapton. Love the whole-song-is-a-solo blues greats from vintage BB King, like Slow Walk, You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now, Goin' Down Slow, The Jungle, Five Long Years, Eyesight To The Blind . . . many others.

Gilmour is my guitar idol since Steve Clark (Def Leppard) died. Most working on chords and vocals from Sister Hazel. Ken Block and I have the same vocal range and sound alike so I'm learning all that I can of their catalog.

Also working on setlist that includes Bryan Adams, Blackhawk, REO Speedwagon, Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, Tom Petty, Eagles, Jackson Browne, Emerson Hart, Fred Eaglesmith, Edwin McCain, Keith Curtis, Hal Ketchum, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Rodney Crowell, and Pure Prairie League.

Gettin there.
