Hey, just wanted to make a quick intro to the forum. My name is Jim Mullins but everyone calls me MULLY. I found this forum through a friend of mine that directed me to the thread with Ceri working on the "Pyrocaster". Man, was that a fun ride or what? I sat here for close to 4 hours yesterday going through that entire thread.

Anyway, I'm originally from Cincinnati, Ohio but have been living in Japan since 1991. I'm 42 years old and have been playing guitar since I was about 15 or so. Started out on bass after seeing Steve Harris from Iron Maiden and thinking he was the coolest thing since sliced bread. Never really was into guitar until one day in school a girl in my art class told me I looked like David Lee Roth....trust me, I don't look anything like him, but, at that young impressionable age I had to check out Van Halen. I had already been listening to hard rock music but I wasn't really into Van Halen at the time. Well, I checked them out and saw Eddie and my life was changed. Took my little brother's guitar and gave him my bass and have been playing guitar ever since.

Favorite guitarists are too many to put here but to toss out some names for reference...Eddie Van Halen and SRV rank as my all time favorites. Since their styles are so different I can comfortably put both of them in the number one position. Others would include Paul Gilbert, Nuno Bettencourt, Slash, James Hetfield, The Young brothers (Angus and Malcom), Henry Garza, John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Wes Montgomery.....the list goes on.

For myself, I'd say my style is more in line with EVH but I love blues music and have been playing a lot of it since passing 40. I can't seem to listen to hard rock/metal for any length of time anymore. Sucks getting old.

Now for the part you've been waiting for, the gear.

I have 5 guitars in my modest little arsenal. 2 Warmoth Strats that I built......er....after going through Ceri's thread I may be using the term "built" a little loosely, hehe. I also have a 1997 Fender USA Eric Clapton model, a Kramer 5150 striped, and a Music Man EVH model in pink......it was a X-mas gift from my wife so I can't really complain too much about the color. hehe!!

Amps, I have a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Trem-o-verb head, Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier 50w combo, Fender 15w Blues Jr., Spider IV 30, and a little tiny 10w Fernandes jobber that I use here at home for practice.

My effects board is fairly simple. I don't use a whole lot of effects. With a Dual Rectifier I don't need anything to give me anymore gain. I have a Boss Blues Driver, MXR EVH Phaser, MXR Carbon Copy, and I'm currently in the market for an MXR Chorus. Oh, I forgot, I have a Dunlop EVH Wah. The first day I had it I broke the little adjuster under the foot pedal part so the pedal is really loose all the time. Being in Japan, and having ordered it from America, it was too much of a pain in the backside to get going with the warranty and have it fixed. Why would they use plastic for something like that???

Anyway, that's all for now.
MULLY

Welcome to the forum, Mully. That's quite a stable you have there. Any problems getting your amp rigs to play on Japanese house current? I've always been curious about that.

Mully, Welcome aboard. Nice little family you've got going there. You'll find many friends here and a wealth of knowledge if so needed.

Thanks for the welcome messages, you guys.

Retoverbial, no problems with the current here. Japan is 110, America is 120. My Mesa head, Blues Jr. and Spider came through the distributor so they already had all the mods done to them. My Mesa combo, I bought it used, came with a step up transformer. I'm not sure how it got here without going through the distributor though. That thing weighs a ton and a half and I can't imagine the moron that would lug something like that on a plane with them. hahaha!! But, I guess someone did. That's dedication for ya I guess. God knows if I had gone through the trouble of getting something that heavy over here I surely wouldn't have sold it.

Thanks again, guys.

I know this is a Fender forum so I don't want to overstep any bounds, but I just wanted to put up some better pics of my Warmoth's. Granted, not as much work went into these as Ceri's "Pyrocaster" but they were the first guitars I did on my own and I'm pretty proud of them. Please excuse the large photo of my wife with the white one, I wanted to make sure the grain in the fingerboard could be seen really well.

and for what it's worth, my main player is my Clapton model.

Image
Alder back, maple top, natural masked binding, AAA birdseye neck and fingerboard with a Wolfgang back contour and Wolfgang radius, 6105 stainless frets. Wilkinson trem, bone nut, Schaller locking tuners. Bridge is DiMArzio Tone Zone S, middle is DiMArzio Area 61 and the neck is DiMarzio Heavy Blues II. 1 volume, 1 tone (both say Tone". Volume is a push/push pot.

Image
Black Korina chambered body with a black korina top. Alpine white with natural masked binding. Flame maple neck with ebony fingerboard. Neck back contour is Fender thin C and the radius is Warmoth's compound. 6105 stainless frets. Corian nut and Schaller locking tuners. Fender American Standard tremolo. Bridge is DiMarzio Super Distortion middle and neck are Van Zandt Blues series. 1 volume, 1 tone (both say "Tone").

Wife: Japanese, born in 1963. 5'2", black hair, brown eyes. Back contour is like 2 hamsters wrestling under a blanket, radius like a couple of peaches. No volume control that I can find and the tone is really good unless I leave the toilet seat up or drink out of the milk carton and then it gets kind of shrill.

The black tape on the Strats is something that started waaaaay back when I had my first Fender Strats. I had an 89 Strat plus and a 91 American Standard. I have big hands and the volume knob was always getting in my way so I removed one tone and moved the volume down one. The hole in the scratch plate was kind of unsightly so I put a piece of electrical tape over it. Kind of been my habit ever since.....except for my Clapton model because of the mid boost. The tone knob thing is something I picked up from EVH. I saw a closeup of one of his guitars and he only has one knob and it says "Tone". Silly me, young and impressionable, I had to do it and continue to this day. hehe!!

Pics of Eric coming up.

Welcome Mully! Don't worry, most folks here like seeing all kinds of guitars and amps especially the um, shall we say older or more mature/experienced, okay, I'll say it.... geezers like myself. :D

Hi Mully. welcome.

there have been partscaster threads before. the only controversy here about them has to do with passing them off as branded, and the application of fake decals. So I wouldn't worry too much. always nice to have another guitar enthusiast here. (More than a few of us have various forms of partscasters along with factory guitars.)

Do you play flipped body? or did you put your Warmoth decal on upside down?
