SWEET! A friend of mine bought a new Strat as an investment in 1976...never even taken it out of the case, and original strings. He said it was worth over 20G, anybody know if that is correct? :?:

No. Your friend is quite a dreamer.

That "new" strat, Truetone6, is very nice.
It's a lot like the one I bought new 33 1/2 years ago.

74 a truly great year for Strat's. Serial number engraved on the neck plate, last year for the white pup covers and pickguard. i miss mine every day but if it wasn't for selling it I wouldn't have the job I have now where I can afford to pick up a used Strat or two. So natural birds eye maple neck 536278 if you're out there i miss you and my dad. You have a fine looking specimen there bro.

Real nice score, how does she sound and play.

Martin welcome to the forum. Is your friends Strat worth over 20 grand-NO not even close. But it is worth a nice amount.

Thanks, Straycat...I kinda figured he was doing a little drunken boasting

Being an acoustic picker myself, I know little about electrics, only that they sound great with the right sound system and the correct guy wailing on 'em!

Thanks for all the posts guys! Wow "The Groovy '70s Club" I can dig it.

I love this Strat . Sounds so awesome, the pickups are really great, smooth, sweet and warm with a nice compressed attack.

Hey Martin maybe your friends guitar is the one that Buddy Holly bought when he went "Back To The Future" That would be worth $20,000

It's a shame that The Buddy Holly movie is so inaccurate.....
I have talked to J.I.Allison,the drummer,Joe B. Mauldin the bass player, shortly in the past and they're nice guys, also Sonny Curtis who played with Buddy in the early days, and those guys have stated publicly about the movie...."they got it all wrong."
A dang shame....I saw Busey in an interview a couple of years ago and he put on a pair of black frame glasses and slurred "when I put on these glasses,I become Buddy Holly".....what a shame.

Brother there is no way a 76 is worth 20K. At present maybe between 2k and 3.5k to a hardcore collector.

I when I bought my 1974 strat (used) and it came with this '80 case which is ok but missing one hinge in the back

So today I got this old case which is the same as the one it would have come with in 1974. It's a little roadworn but so is the guitar.

Now we're talking. It's good to have the proper case. :D

This is very odd to me, it has the bullet trussrod,so it seems to be fron 1974 onwards, but i think you can´t find staggred polepieces in any CBS era stratocaster,at least after 1975, it was one of the "great ideas of CBS",ending with one of the bests ideas Leo Fender had developed before. It would be nice to know the serial number.

1974 STRATOCASTER CHARACTERISTICS
from www.stratcollector.com
Specs: Around mid-year, the pickup poles become level (flush), replacing the uneven or"staggered" poles. However, staggered pole pickups have been found in Strats with pots dating as late as the 39th week of 1974

The bullet trussrod was introduced in 1971.

Don't worry, my 74 has staggered pole pieces too. I got it from a pawnshop in 1981.
