I got this used strat at my friends store. It's a 1974 with the staggered pole piece pickups. It's all original except for a refret, new trem bar and an 80's Fender hardshell case.

Is 74 still part of the CBS era?

I believe CBS owned Fender until 1985 when Bill Schultz and the Fender employees bought the company.

I love my 72. Mine needs a refret badly and I want to dump the cast bridge saddles too. Mine are pretty corroded. I just need to find someone I trust to do the refret. I wouldn't let the techs at my local GC or Sam Ash do a string change let alone a refret. The pups always sounded great to my ears. I had to replace the volume pot this year but that's it.

That's really nice,good score.
I know CBS era guitars and amps get a bad name, but that's a piece of history and a good looking guitar,I would be happy with it.

I had to play a few before I found my 72. The QC was hit and miss, but when you found one with a nice tight neck pocket and put together right they're pretty sweet guitars. After 38 years I barely got through the poly on the neck.LOL It yellowed a bit from all the bars and being around smoke and stuff. it.

Sweet, it even has the wham bar. I played one of those back in the day with a band in high school. It is a sweet guitar.

SWEET! A friend of mine bought a new Strat as an investment in 1976...never even taken it out of the case, and original strings. He said it was worth over 20G, anybody know if that is correct? :?:
