I have one of those basic black cloth fender straps with schallers. I would love to get a wide, well made, comfortable strap that doesn't cut into my neck annd should and make my guitar swing around uncontrollably. What are some suggestions? Leather are suede or something else that's soft and thick ifs preferable apreciated

Italia Straps are very nice. Handmade leather, very soft, very comfortable. They are now having a special, buy on get one free. The strap costs $65, but cut that in half for 2 and you can't beat the price.

Levy's are great straps. I have them on my acoustics. For my strat, this worked good for me. Very comfy.

Yeah, I have to agree about the Levy's straps if you're wanting a good leather strap that won't leave you broke. I have one that I've used for at least 6 years or more and it still looks pretty much brand new. It doesn't get as much use as my other strap but it's been used quite a bit.
