Hey everybody,

Back posting again after a while, still dealing with my disibility, but doing the best I can. Although my building has slowed down because of it, it hasent stopped me, I just cant pump em out as fast as I used to. Here is my latest Strat, one that I have been wanting to build for a LONG time, A cool looking Relic Strat and I think it came out pretty cool. I used a Hum Hum setup, Seymour Duncans JB SH-4 in the neck and SH-6 in the Bridge, this thin Screams with tone. I didnt split the coils on this one cause I was going for nothing but pure rip your face off Tone. the neck is a BEAUTIFUL Mighty Mite Birdseye Maple neck, Sperzel USA Locking Tuners, I still want to put a String Retainer on it and thats about it, but I will let you guys decide, I think it came out pretty dang good for my first relic job. Those who have seen my posts before know I have done quite a few Custom built Strats, and believe me, theres a lot more to come, especially after I get my first round of Epidural Steroid Shots in my power back on the 18th this month. Were all hoping (family and friends and most of all...ME) it will relieve at least some of my pain, which unfortunally is a 24 hour a day thing. But, building is something that keeps my mind off of the stress of everything, I just have to work in small spurts and take a lot of breaks. Just like learning guitar, keep a positive attitude and you can do anything.

No offense but personally I don't think the "relic" looks very realistic. What kind of use were you thinking of when you made the wing shaped part? The forearm wear doesn't look like it's in the right position. To get wear in that area you'd have to play the guitar with it strapped to your chest. It should be more towards the neck side of the contour. I also can't think of anything that would cause wear like that on the upper horn.

For your next project pay attention to how you hold the guitar... ask yourself what would cause wear. Don't forget stuff like wear marks for the cord going into the jack and being tucked inside the strap. There might be marks on the bottom from sitting in a stand... stuff like that.

i think it looks great and i love seymor duncans. i'd bet that it will rip your face off.
i'm curious from your user name what kind of farm work you do. i too worked on 2 farms and know for a fact that the days are long, hard and sometimes dangerous. OSHA don't make it out to the farms and that's probably a good thing. glad you have something to do to take your mind off whatever injury it is that you have.
anyway, i'd love to take that axe for a test drive. good job.

No offense taken. Maybe relic wasnt the right word to use. Cause to be honest, I really am not all into the "roadworn" series Strats and Teles, I think if they are gonna look like that, they should be from original wear and tear, like "Blackie" I guess maybe I should used "Roughhouse Strat" instead. I was just going for a different look that no one else had and I think I got what I was going after. Ive seen and played relic'd, real and hand made. I had a Jackson that I played extensivly in the 80's that could have been classified as relic'd cause this dings a wear and tear was from playing out 4-5 nights a week for 10 years, so I guess it was just a bad choice of words. I will refer to it as thr "Roughhouse Strat" from now on.

Sorry but +1 on all counts. The body just look like it was heavily freshly sanded and not really worn.

FarmerMan, I hope your health improves, good vibes your way. Take care.

Nice guitar. The Mighty Mite neck is made from the most select birdseye maple. Abalone dots are the icing on the cake, as they add a very elegant visual appeal.

You no need to use string trees with locking tuners! The Sperzels are staggered tuners, making the need of a string tree redundant. For best results, an LSR Roller or a Tusq graphite nut would be the right solution for those nasty tuning unstability problems.

I really don't care much for the 3-way selector because it offers less sonic options than a 5-way switch. Personally I would add a third humbucker (the George Lynch Screamin' Demon SH-11 for the instance) on this one for more meat and a Megapole 5-way super switch with an S1 push/push splitting system and a Passing Lane/Blower button for a greater tonal versatility.

First let me say I hope you feel better, I have lived with 3 herniated disc for the last 14 years and there are times I cant even stand straight.

Secondly I would totally love that ax if it did not look like you took a potato peeler to it. I am totally anti relic and could care less if it was Master Built in the custom shop I cant stand them. On the other hand that is one bad a## Strat and I would love to see you do one with a killer finish.

wtf? Dude you speak nonsense. Theres no string tree. You have no clue if theres a 3 way switch just by looking. He mentioned nothing about tuning instability. Every one of your posts on this forum make little to no sense, or are completely redundant.

No mention of a three way switch. A three way switch doesn't limit anything. My 72 has a three way switch and all you have to do is put it between settings and you get the 2 and 4 settings for the "out of phase" sound. Clapton did it years ago as did thousands of other musicians. Staggered tuners don't make string trees unnecessary. Nether do locking tuners. The head angle is what determines that. The trees keep downward pressure on the strings so they don't pop out of the nut.
Also, I didn't read about the OP having tuning problems.
