Personally I like Schaller and they go on every guitar I get.

I've tried both Dunlop and Schaller strap locks. Dunlops give you the advantage of being able to use a regular strap without strap locks once they're installed. However, mine tended to come loose and I nearly dropped my guitar several times. So I tried Schaller and even though they don't give you the option of using a strap without strap locks if you want, they feel much sturdier. From now on I'm going to use Schaller.

Yes the Schallers are great. I also like the Dunlop locks that came installed on my Gibson Les Paul Standard. They work well and they do not stick out as far as the Schallers.

I just use the plastic thing from a bag of bread. I've never dropped a guitar yet. (knock on wood) :D

I use the two-dollar plastic strap locks that slip over the button and rotate to lock or unlock. Schallers are great, but I've never felt the need to go beyond the cheap plastic ones. I've never dropped a guitar using them.

I use those for years now. Reliable, no need to replace your strap buttons and cheap enough to keep a few in your cases.

ernie ball's are good too. put them on my strat (chrome of course). uesd the screws that held the original pins on, and it works perfect.

Personally I tend to prefer the Dunlaps over the Schallers. Don't get me wrong...the Schallers -are- decent...no question there but I really like the "push button" way the Dunlap's work. I'm sure to some folks this is a dumb little thing but I don't like the way that little "knob" protrudes on the Schallers that you have to pull up on and slide to remove the strap....I just prefer that large flat washer like device with the little button in the middle. Also the Schallers seem a little "bulkier" to me...when they are attached to the strap properly, I dunno...they just don't seem to hang right on the strat. The Dunlaps just seem like a smarter design to me...kind of like they were designed by a working musician. I actually have Dunlap buttons on two of my Strats so that I can use my favorite strap with either guitar and that works out very nicely.

Now I've only been using the Dunlaps for about a year now but so far I haven't had any problems with them -at all-...very solid and secure so far. Of course that's not to say that they aren't going to fail on me tomorrow and I end up with a guitar crashing to the floor (shivers). I certainly hope that's not the case though...the Dunlaps do seem very stable but only time will really tell there. That said I've used the Schallers for well over 10 years now and those have certainly held up with no issues.

So again, personally I don't really have a problem with the Schallers...they -are- good locks, but personally I prefer the Dunlaps instead. Unless I should run in to a problem, that's likely what I'd buy for future guitars.

Just my $.02,
Jim
