Hello all. I was hoping for some ideas.
I really love the look of the American Standard Sienna Sunburst Strat with a rosewood neck. In fact, I want to purchase one to display in my house (maybe to play a little but more to look at as I really, really love the look of these guitars).

Anyway, I've been looking for one for over a year now and have not found one that looks right (and by right I would say one that looks similar to one pictured on the fender website-well matched body, nice colors, dark fretboard, etc).

Since I want to display this guitar, I want it to look REALLY nice. But the problem I'm encountering is either the body is matched poorly (the most common problem I've found), stained poorly, or the neck wood is too light (and resembles s cheaper quality of wood).
I know there will always be imperfections, but I just want a nice DISPLAY worthy strat that resembles the one in the picture on this website. Any suggestions on obtaining one? I'm getting frustrating looking...

I would also like to know how to look at multiple burst guitars and pick the clear gem. I'd hate ordering one only to find out it's not as nice as it could possibly be.

will be watching this thread...

I feel the same about the tobacco burst ash deluxe ... the ones in the stores are totally different.

A really beautiful guitar. The only thing I can say is go check out as many as you can until you deem one worthy. But just remember if you really look hard for the hair on the egg you will find it. I have a few guitars that have flaws only I can see and if I point them out sometimes someone will look at me as if I cracked up.

You may get lucky, but it sounds like you're looking for custom shop quality. Can you pay those prices?

Good luck..

I called my rep at sweetwater.com to order a Sienna Sunburst HSS American Strat with a Rosewood fingerboard. I have some of the concerns as you. The wood grain I've seen on some of the Sienna Sunbursts is terrible. My rep (Mark Thompson) is going to send me photos when it gets in so I can see if I like it before I buy it.

I find it inherently frustrating that I have SEEN the guitar I want, but I can't FIND the guitar I want.

Sienna Sunburst is one of the coolest finishes ever made. Lots of late 1970s/early 1980s vibe! Sienna Sunburst is especially attractive on a maple-neck Strat with an Italian tortoiseshell pickguard.

BTW, Fender should bring back the Stratobursts and offer these finishes as an option on the American Standard series. Same thing for the Italian tort guards also.

PS: If you're looking for a better-looking sunburst guitar, you can buy a Custom Shop Strat. This means much better quality but also extremely high prices.

Just get a nice Am Dlx ash in Aged Cherry. Similar in appearance, just not as washed out looking.

Richie Sambora had his early "huge star inlay" Fender signature model Stratocaster with a Cherry Sunburst finish.

Very attractive guitar, better than the later models with the Ceramic pickups and the 12dB midboost circuit.

The sweetness on this beauty came from the two Texas Special single-coils in the neck and middle positions, while the DiMarzio PAF Pro humbucking pickup in the bridge, coupled with a 25dB midboost circuit and a TBX tone control, provides all the biting roar and raw crunch you might expect from "Jersey Star" himself.

This guitar is not mine.

Hi bcam23: I have a very nice Sienna Sunburst HSS. I walked into a store to buy something else entirely, but dragged that one out of there because is was so good - including the matching of the timber.

More recently I also wanted to buy an Am Dlx Tele in Cherryburst, with the bound body. However, all the ones I found in shops had very plain or even unattractive timber. Hardly the vital issue on a musical instrument - but for the money I want it to be right!

I asked several shops if they'd order it and they would - but not on the basis that I would only buy it if I liked the grain. Obviously, I can sorta see that one from their point of view...

So the only option is to keep looking and be ready to pounce when we find the guitars we are waiting for!

Good luck - C

These Cherry Sunburst US Deluxe Teles are plain and unattractive because they feature alder bodies.

I agree, ash is more attractive than alder and has more snap. So if you're looking for that snappy Tele sound without the hum, you must look for a used Deluxe Tele with VNs on eBay.

The very early Cherryburst Deluxe Telecasters produced between 2002 and 2004 employed premium ash bodies. Since 2004, all Cherryburst Tele bodies are made from select alder.

Fender offers an ash Telecaster, but it's available in 2-tone sunburst and butterscotch blonde. Cherryburst is only available the on alder-bodied models.

This is all true.

But still, there's nicer and less nice pieces of alder. Seems that the several I've looked at have all been surprisingly unspecial. I'm perfectly happy with alder, but I do want pieces that are regular grained and go together prettily - which seems to have been too much to ask, so far!

Forum user Snowy has a Cherryburst Am Dlx Tele that is just gorgeous, to judge from his photos! 8)

Do I recall right that FHopkins has one too...?

...When you can remember the guitars of people you've never actually met - that's life telling you to get out more!!!

Cheers - C
