hi, i have to get some new wire to replace the actual semi-melted one it is on my strat. ( there are little melted spots of wire due to past solderings and mistakes, of course you cannot see the internal metallic wire...but i don't like to see them in this state )

what are the right specs ? i read it is a 22AWG (American Wire Gauge), 0.050" diameter

what should be in millimeters?

apart that, are there other specs to look after?

i see from pictures on the net they are grey on the inside - like they are already treated with soldering material... it is tinned, right?

thanx!

Stock wiring is PVC coated and has a low melting point and is prone to burn through. Get yourself some decent 22g teflon coated wire; the teflon jacket may not be original spec, but it won't melt and therefore is best for wiring unless you own a high dollar vintage guitar. I'd also pick up some 2 mm heat shrink tubing to dress the ends of the wiring over the solder joints.

Here is reputable dealer on your continent Dirk is a columnist for Premiere Guitar Magazine, and a wiring guru:

Cheers

Thanx! I'll take a look there.
I need the same wire as used by Fender, modern wire not cloth.
I need them because i have to replace 2 or 3 wires, i don't want to do a mix of different material wirings.
In my city - I live in Italy they are hard to find... :(
the only way is eBay but there too..thera are few auctions from Europe and one of them has Chinese or Korean wires...Shinhwa ..do you know this brand?

Yep. Had a multi-channel UHF radio made by them once. If you're interested in stock wire, go for the White or black PVC jacket stuff, just watch your heat and contact time with your soldering iron. Colder irons (under 30 watt) tend to melt the jacket as it takes more contact time especially to wire grounds on the back of potentiometer cases. A hotter iron allows you to get "on and off" rather quickly and limits heat transfer through the parts you're working on. A 30 watt pencil, or a 50 watt variable temp station are the good stuff for wiring guitars.
