Well if they were a big seller they would not of been discontinued which I dont find to be a justifiable reason not to bring it back. Just look at the almost cult status of the Plus-Ultra series of which I am a member, they were some of the best made guitars by Fender ever. At this point in time Metal probably has done more than any other music to keep the guitar in the public eye and also the eye's of younger players and I am not even a big fan though I respect and really love the technical side of Metal playing. I always thought that with a few tweaks and (Humbuckers) the Ultra would of been the ultimate hard rock ax. Maybe they can combine the two for one killer guitar.

Yeah, but didn't they already kinda' sorta' already do that? I know it's not the same guitar; but does anyone remember the HW1 Showmaster?

Digging through my 2005 copy of "Fender Frontline," I unearthed several different varieties of Showmaster. Some were finished in solid poly, while others had flame or quilted maple tops. Personally I thought they were ugly, but I can see how a guitar like that would be targeted at the HM people. Considering that I've never seen one in person, I don't think they did very well. The metalheads I know have a simple assessment of Fender: great guitars, but not for metal. Fender should stick with what they do best.

Fenders "Super Strat" guitars never really sold particularly well, they came too late to the party and most Fender players are kind of conservative in how they like their Strats and Teles anyway. I think that's why FMIC bought Jackson/Charvel, those companies are associated with "Super Strat" guitars and had an established following.

The market has tons of companies doing it right already. Fender already has a ridiculous amount of models and variations of the same thing.

I think in some ways the HM strat never went away. Theres a definate line of its evolution. HM-Floyd-Showmaster...and all the rest. Granted non of em say rock or die like the HM strat. Even the Kramers of the time dont. There was something utterly offensive about taking a strat and turning it into that. Not that it was a bad thing, I think it was it's appeal.

The one area that is sadly lacking is the HM tele. Now that was a guitar that looked like it would bust your nose then buy you a pint.

I'll tell you what killed the HM strat, grunge and all them no hopers. All fashion sense shifted to everyones rear end. It damaged Jackson to a point where they never recovered until Fender bought em out. Kramer still havent recovered despite several attempts. Remember the ill fated Wayne guitars by Wayne Charvel? A great line released far too early. The same could be said of the Floyd Rose guitars that had the updated trem system.

I wondered about that- yesterday I looked at one of these San Dimas style 2 and they are killer in my opinion:

I looked at the website and they seem to be rather popular with the limited colours and they sound great. Truth is though- fender dont really have a name for these style guitars, which is why they are done by charvel:

i would love to have the opportunity to own one! I would also like to see the System one or two Trem units make an appearance on an 80's re-issue...It's about time for us to see one!!

Right you are, Niki. GKG and Unk are doing well because they doing it small and steady. They are getting precisely the market share of people that want good quality metal axes that don't say Jackson, ESP, etc... on the headstock.

I don't think the HM Strat will ever happen again. The Chavels don't seem to have sold well enough to sustain the line and that's a shame. Somebody said Fender would never step on Jackson/Charvel's toes by roaming into their niche of the market. I say bollocks! It happened in the 80's and it could happen today. A little competition from within could actually spur sales. Anyway, I plan to have me one of these whether its a Fender or something else. ;)

Cheers! and "Just say NO to the EMO!"

Okay 20 bonus post points awarded for the first person who can name the artist that endorsed the Lead 1 series when it came out.
