you do realize that Jimi owes Buddy Guy more than Buddy Guy owes him right? Take a look at the early videos of Buddy and you'll see where Jimi got a lot of his act from. This is something that often gets overlooked. Jimi got that playing "style" from Mr. Guy IMO.

I have proof from BB King himself he doesn't use .008's. Plus he has his own Gibson Signature String line...

Model No.: SEG-BBS

Gauge: Signature Gauge

String 1: E - .010

String 2: B - .013

String 3: G - .017p

String 4: D - .032w

String 5: A - .045w

String 6: E - .054w

Enough said.

What difference does it make what someone else uses. Use the ones that suit your needs and are comfortable to you.

Surely nothing to get worked up about. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff.

PS not directed to anyone in particular, just an opinion.

They were mutual friends and fans of each other. If you read old interviews with Buddy, you'll find Jimi was a big fan of his too. I'd say they equally learned from each other. Buddy was playing professionally for Chess Records before Jimi became famous.....

No it's not enough said at all. Handling his guitar and using a set of calipers would be 'enough said'. So show me some pictures of BB King himself doing that and I'll buy it. Do you really believe such advertizing ploys? Do you really believe any signature artist uses their signature equiptment as much as they use the stuff that made em?

Just because someone puts their name to something for money it doesnt mean they use it. It's that kind of thinking thats responsible for the current long lasting spate of crap product.

This is common knowledge and I have read the old interviews. Of course Buddy was a fan of Jimi's, who isn't? Buddy was playing professionally BEFORE Jimi, as you stated and you can look at early Buddy Guy performances before Jimi was even heard of and see that Jimi got much of his style and stage presentation from Buddy. Just my opinion of course, but Jimi owes Buddy a lot more than Buddy owes Jimi, that's was the reason I quoted your post saying Buddy owes Jimi.

I've heard it from BB King himself. He was asked to do some lesson back in the early '90s. BB KING BLUES MASTER. On the second or third video, he mentioned his string gauge. He like the heavier tone for the lower strings but wanted to still be able to bend, that's why he has .10's. Plus he mentions he favored Fender Twin's at the time. Maybe he's changed, but when his music was tops, he used his odd string set then....

Billy Gibbons for years played with 11s saying the more metal the thicker the tone until he was touring with an olds blues great who's name escapes me at the time and today uses 9s and sometimes 8s and says he really cant tell no difference in tone. There was a period I only had access to a cheap acoustic and could bend the strings off the fretboard and maybe that has something to do with me needing surgery today and not really being able to play.

I saw it on a video interview where he named King as being the person to tell him, "stop making it hard for yourself and lighten your strings". Quite a bit of advise to give someone Hendrix named as the best guitarist on the planet.

Detroit if he personaly told you then I gotta accept that. Your right peoples tastes change.

This vid is pretty interesting if you've never seen how they make strings :

Only reason I use heavier strings is to help prevent breakage.... Heavier tends to last a little longer...

Yknow that could be a setup issue. I heard once that a strings maximum play life was thirtysix hours of usage. If you play a hour a day thats just over a month.
I dont change my strings that often. It's more like once every three months.

I really can't say the last time I broke a string. Its just something I've heard. I went from .009's to .010's for that reason. I tried 11's, but that ended up needing the nut to be refiled and I'm not about to do that. Its not necessarly a setup issue, other then I should change my saddles to Graphtech if it really bothers me...

Mate dont ever do that, their nuts are great, the saddles are a real drain on the livliness of your strings. I got some sat here, I think the chinese knockoff/early squier saddles sound far better. If you get some 1000grit wet and dry and smooth any burr's off your saddles it will give the same benefit as them graphtech things and not impair your sound. If you have the milled steel block saddles that come on the deluxe/American standard you can do the grooved section really well by wrapping the wet&dry round a matchstick. If your confident of getting the burr out quickly without damaging the surrounding area, then use a cardboard nailfile or needle file. Use the wet&dry afterwards to fine smooth it over.
