The best blues pickup is any pickup in a guitar being played by a good blues player.

Seriously, whats best? Eric's SCN single-coils? John Mayer's custom wound scooped things? BB King's Gibson buckers? And should those be PAF's, '59s or PEarly Gates? Muddy's Telecaster neck pup? or Albert Collins' Tele bridge? What about those Teisco Del Ray thing Hound Dog Taylor likes... or P-90's, or Gretsch Filtertrons?

Seriously, there's no best. Best for you is what you like.

There are so many different blues sounds it's unreal man. But yeah the VN pups have a good twangy bite to them without that ugly static in the background. I can get some nice blues tones out of some tex mex pups too.
