So it's been about 3 weeks since I have had my 80's MIJ strat... And I am loving it... I am not sure why it took me so long to buy a fender... I guess I always had that attitude that Gibson was always the best.. My first real guitar as a teenager was a Les Paul Custom... So, I always scoffed at the small strats...

But the sound is what seperates the strat from the les paul.. I now realize where folks like buddy guy and SRV get that tone... I have about 30 blues cd's and going back to listen to them, I realize how prevalent the fender thin sound is... Even for Chicago blues players.. Not just the Texas players..

Don't get me wrong.. I won't be selling my LP custom ...ever.. but the strat provides a great alternative .. Especially if you need that thin tone...

That's a very nice looking Contemporary Standard 22!!!

I too have a Gibson LP that I will not get rid of. It's nice to have some choice every now and than.

I still love my Gibsons......

Especially after playing Les Pauls exclusively for some thirty-five years.

But I love my Stratocasters MORE now.

What a collection! You can have it all. Strats are great, and so are Gibsons. It has never been about one being better than the other in my mind. For some types of music you need a strat. For others only Gibson will do. They're both awesome in their own ways. Life is too short to not have one of everything.

Retro:

My list -- Gibson ES-335, Gibson ES-137, Gibson Les Paul Custom, Guild X-170 and of course my strat...

All outstanding guitars.. But then again a guitar is only as good as the player.. :P

You got a nice collection too, CB......post some pics if you get a chance.

Toronado, that's my "touring guitar" -- a one-owner '78 Les Paul Standard in Tobacco Brown sunburst finish. A bit on the heavy side at nearly 10 lbs but it does sound awesome.

Different tools for different jobs, that's all it is.

I recently sold my SG and bought another Strat because I'm no longer playing in a band and I love the Fender sound the best. 2 Strats and a Tele is enough to satisfy me for what I want to do just playing around.

Of course I would like to get a few more Strats and Teles...

Thanks Retro; she's a beauty. I'll keep the tobacco brown in mind; I do hope I can get one like it one day.

All such beautiful looking axes. Anyone that is serious with there playing should own at least one of both. Some have several single coil axes and one humbucking and some the other way around. But I feel it is great to have tone options.

Contemporary Standard 22's were made of Alder.
