Not sure why in the world the Vintage guitar price guide ommits the AMSE model of the 2004 50th Anniversary Strat.

It was by far the most talked about and written about of all of the "special" 50ths that year.

so I asking for a write in campaign from all of you fellow 50th amse guys out there.

Tell The price guide guys you want to see our model mentioned.

Still sorry Fender put a 50th neck plate on every strat made that year.

The 2010 Vintage Guitar Price Guide lists several 50th Ann. Strats including Custom Shop Models and their prices range from $1450-3300 depending on what model.

Yes I know, however they ommited the most popular one of all.
The AMSE L/E has all of the "only available options" of the true 50th Strats and its very own custom shop 54 pups too.

And the fancy tweed case with the big 50th patch embroidered in it too.

You have to go back to before Fender opened this site to see all the fuss made over that model.

I bought the AMSE and the deluxe when they came out and still have the AMSE

Its my #1 for six years running and has beat out several custom shop models for that place.

+1
EVERYBODY who bought a plain ol' American Series in 2004 thinks they have the special 50th Anniversary version. Why oh why did Fender put that special neckplate on all American Strats that year? For 6 years now people have been trying to sell their plain ol' 2004 AmSe's at insanely high prices claiming it's "the special edition 50th Anniversary Strat" just because it has that neckplate. Sorry for the rant....

I LOVE my 50th Anny AmSe Strat, yes it is the real. Those '54 inspired pickups have some sort of mojo I can't put my finger on, but I like it!

Like guitslinger points out I think the 2004 Annys are indeed in the 2010 price guide. There is a copy at my local bookstore, I'll have to browse through it again tonight and report back to verify.

Just because its Vintage guitar magazine that makes the price guide does not mean all of the guitars and amps are indeed vintage.

The "mojo" is most likely the nice ash bodies, the special pickups and the most playable neck I have ever seen.

Oh and the one ply parchment colored gaurd.

the only thing they did wrong on them was to use a modern bridge.

The case is also very nice !

I too am not the biggest fan of the 2point bridge. Still I think the new bent steel saddles on the American Standard are a big improvment over the milled block saddles. I just wish I could find some gold ones to fit my deluxe bridge.

Suprised you haven't tried them.

I tried those CS54's on a CS54RI, very nice pickups indeed. You may want to take a look at these, I bought a set after trying the CS54's.

Every pickup handwound. You dont have to have the beveled magnet or reverse wound middle nonsense. Well worth a try out on another guitar. The sultans are a little too glassy, I cant play em with a plectrum.

^ I just quoted myself. How uncool is that?

Anyway I got back from the bookstore and it's true the 50th Anny AmSe is NOT in the price guide. For 2004 the 50th Anny Custom Shop Strat, 50th Anny Am Dlx, Gold 50th Anny MIM are in there but no mention of the 50th Anny Am Series. I scoured the whole Strat section just to be sure. I guess if it's not in the price guide then it's priceless

That is worth writing in about. I dont see why any other anniversary model be included and not that one.

Personaly I'd be very sceptical about what some price guide book says anyway. It's a ballpark figure at best. What things actualy sell for is a far more accurate yardstick to judge by. Something is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. On ebay uk theres a couple of auctions running at the moment. A legit 63 strat and a 61 335. Both auctions started at 1pence with no reserve price set. The seller is very confident that they'll both sell for around their correct prices. Which I'm sure they will, thats why I havent bid.

Ok in a couple of days I'll be paying very close attention.

"and it's true the 50th Anny AmSe is NOT in the price guide."

That just doesn't make any sense!

I would not put any stock in the Vintage Guide or the Blue Book both of which I own. They are just a referance point and to be honest are there for the advantage of dealers and store owners. I have mentioned this before but the last guitar show I was at the dealers pulled out the books whenever someone had a guitar to trade in or sell yet the book did not pertain or come out on anything a dealer was selling. Also the books go low end on many guitars and alsoleave out important facts on some models that were known to only have a quilt top the first year or guitars that only were made in a limited amount of colors all which have a lot to do with there value. Right now anyway I would just concentrate on buying certain guitars while the economy is down along with guitar prices. Anyone selling something good now is either jammed for money or just dont know what there doing. It was nice to see the same year, color and condition Strat Ultra I own sell for $2,500 on ebay a week ago.
