No. 8) For the same money you could buy 30 custom shop guitars.

If I had that kind of money to spend on a guitar, I would not need that guitar. I would already have about 10 killer players.

If I had the money I would buy a nice car, something that the officer would have a hard time catching up to >_>

Nah, I would buy a vintage Guild Starfire and a vintage Guild acoustic, then pocket the rest and move to Peru and never be heard from again.

Nope...if I had that kind of money to spend on music gear, it would likely go in to recording gear instead. I just can't see spending that kind of money on -1- guitar for any reason...but that's just me.

$95,000...let's see, first thing I'd get is a better PC for the studio (probably a good Quad Core with LOTS of ram and HDD space) along with a decent multi-input sound system and beefy mixing board (at least 16 simultaneous channels in and out of the PC) then I'd get a couple of decent compressors (maybe something like those Avalons), probably a couple of mid range mics (like Sennheiser 421's CAD 300's or something...maybe even a Blue), probably some professional sound proofing (especially in the duct work so the studio sound doesn't carry through the whole house), a couple of decent MIDI modules would be nice (including something with a nice B3 sound), maybe a nice keyboard/workstation (a Korg Triton or a Yamaha Motiff would be nice), a good second set of reference monitors...-lot's- of things I could easily spend that kind of bread on music-wise and surprisingly, guitars are actually pretty low on the list right now. Guitar-wise, I might divert some of that bread to a couple of decent sets of pickups (some EMG's would be good) and maybe a neck for the MIJ Contemporary I'm working on but that's really about it.

Peace,
Jim

No way. For that kind of money you could get five top-notch guitars, a new car, and a trip to Europe.

That price is way out of the ball park for a 61,even a custom colour unless it was the 61 sonic Blue that John Lennon owned.Maybe that's why his price is through the roof, figuring some Beatlephile like would buy it.Even if I had the scratch to buy it I'd pass considering that for $35,000 less you could pick up a mint early production number 54 or for $72,000 get a 56-59 Mary Kaye with a maple or slab neck.I was going to check this guy out when I go to Florda this week but after seeing what he's asking for the Strat,he surely isn't likely to have any bargains so I think I'll give the Guitar Broker a miss.

For some reason I do not get the same rush from a vintage ax to justify spending a sum like that on one guitar that I do being able to blow half that in the custom shop on about 8 MB guitars that would be to my specs .

I am starting to think the whole vintage seen is overrated. Just think of all the great music that Hendrix and Clapton to name a few made with guitars that were a few years old when the bought them.

I know that's a lot of money for one guitar. That money could help a lot of people. If I ever have that much I want to help some people have a better life.

If I had JUST that much, no way. But if I was a billionaire, or a hundred millionaire... I'd look at it. I like maple necks, though, so maybe I wouldn'tike it that much anyway!

The whole "vintage" thing has gotten way out of hand.
I think other guys who were around in the '60s and '70s like I was, will tell you that not all Pre CBS guitars were wonderful tone machines.
I could have bought many Strats for under $300 back into the early/mid '70s,but lots of them that were for sale were just *okay*.
Like somebody said when Clapton was playing Brownie or Blackie, they were probably less than 15 years old.I have modern American made Strats that old now.
I think it's crazy to buy a Strat for even $11,000,(and I know where a good '65 is that plays and sounds great),even though I've considered it because it has family ties and a sentimental value.
Naw,if I had that much to spend it wouldn't be for a guitar that may sound good.

I live in Ft Lauderdale, and I know Craig from the Guitar Broker. He has a small shop where he also sells exotic cars along with vintage guitars. These guitars are not for players, they are for collectors. There is no comparison between the quality and playability of say a new American Deluxe and one of these 50 year old nostalgic, collectible hunks of wood.

These, and IMHO just about all of these "Vintage" guitars are great to hang on the wall of your mansion and tell a cool story about them when you have a party. Playing them...and I have played a bunch of them at Guitar Brokers shop...is kinda like driving a 50 year old car...cool and fun but nothing like driving a new one.

It's neat, but no I wouldn't. I don't buy things I don't use so I'd play the thing and destroy any "investment value" so it would be ridiculous for me to buy it. Make sense?

If I ever buy a vintage Strat it will be say a 54 that was sent back to Fender for a new paint job
