Hi All,

I'm looking for opinions, which would you rather have, here are my choices:
1) a 62 AVRI Strat with a 57 champ
OR
2) a Custom Shop 56 NOS Strat

thanks,

Are you a rosewood guy or a maple guy? Do you prefer the V neck on the 56 or the C shape on the 62? Personally I'd pass on the 57 Champ, at least a new one anyways, $1000 bucks can buy a lot more that a 5 watt single knob amp. Oh and for the guitar a 56 NOS would be essentially the same guitar I have now, a 57 AVRI, except without the stupid neck tint and it comes with a Custom Shop COA, custom shop pickups, and a custom shop setup. Not to mention it will hold its value better than its production counterparts and you can get a custom color. Is it worth the extra $1k+ over a AVRI? I don't know, never had the $1+k to really think about it :P

Touch choice. Not real apples or oranges are they?

Like any other purchase. Let you ears & wallet be you guide.

I'm a maple neck guy, but the 62 avri is in the running because it would be a nice compliment to my 57 avri strat. The 57 champ might be a stretch because 1k for a single knob 5 watt amp is alot, I could also geet a cs 56 and a blues junior.

The 62 only comes with a RW neck.

If I had a choice I'd pick the 62 AVRI as I love the sound and feel of the L series Strats(62-65) the neck on the L series Strats are,to me,more comfortable than the 50s necks. As mentioned before the 62s only have rosewood fretboardbut the difference is purely aesthetic. As far as amps go the Blues Jr. is simply a great little amp and at 15 W is quite suitable for jamming and small gigs.

if you already have a 57 avri there isn't
a real need for the c s 56
I would get the surf green or ice blue metallic
62 just to spice it up add some variety and
have a different vibe for an additional
guitar

Depending on the color of your 57, you could go for the yin yang concept and get a 62 RI in the opposite color. That's what I did when I got my 52 Tele Hot Rod, though I think I need to swap a pickguard to get the complete effect. I'd also make sure the 62 has a sound and feel all its own, I'd hate to spend that money and just get a sound identical to what I already have >_>

I was just looking at a 56 at a guitar store here, it's a really nice guitar. I think Clapton's brownie strat was a 56 and this one looked just like that, but I think if I already had a 57 I would get the 62 because the 56 and 57 are so similar.

I asked myself the same question last year and ended up buying a Custom Shop '56 NOS… but, I own an original '65 Strat so I have the 62-65 L series covered. I played '57 AVRI and '57 Hot Rod Strats before I decided and the '56 NOS was my choice. It's an amazing guitar.

I have never had the chance to play a '62 AVRI but I'm sure it's an excellent guitar. I'd say you win either way.

I would also steer clear of the '57 Champ. That's Deluxe Reverb Reissue money for a 5 watt amp. :)

Well, I think I have ruled out the 5 watt 57 champ, I have to agree with several of you guys - too much money for what it is. With that said, I have been looking at a Princeton Reverb ReIssue, Blues Deluxe and Blues Junior NOS.

I'm thinking the 62 avri might be too close in sound to my 57, they both have the 3 way switch and the 57/62 pickups. Where as the 56 CS NOS is very different - pickups, switching, neck etc...I cleaned house and sold a ton of gear to include a 65 TRRI, 52 AVRI Tele, 55 Thinskin tele and a 72 thinline.
I'm down to my 57 avri strat, 60th anniversary american standard tele and a modded champion 600 amp.

My goal is to have one more strat and I want to make it a nice one with a nice amp (that doesn't weigh more than 50lbs).

here is the 56 I'm intersted in:

ask yourself this...

WIll I look at ether guitar and think, I wish I had the other. Ive just gone through this and went for the ultimate for me. That way you have less chance at regretting it. I understand remorse and change of mind so think of what you dont like of both and the pros so you can see it clearer.

I just got a CS 60 NOS strat. Nothing compares to this on the regular production line. Do your research and be happy with the decision.

I love the champ, its great. You could find one second hand maybe, dont skimp on the amp, a great amp can make up for a soso guitar.

I hope this helps.

That is exactly what I don't want to do.......look at one and say "I should have bought that one instead".
