Hello....newbie here.

I was wondering how you can find out a neck profile (actual measurements...not simply "C" or "V") for Fender guitars, especially the Strat.

I have a maple neck Eric Johnson that I find just about right...it could be a fraction beefier and that would be OK; I am now considering getting the Custom Shop Deluxe Strat and all it says is "A 1965 'C' shaped neck".

Is there a way to find out measurements for these neck types?

Also, for those who have bought one, I'd love to hear your comments about the guitar.

Thanks!

Hi mountain fever, welcome to the Forum.

I've never measured an EJ neck, so I can't give you stats on that. Absolutely no reason you can't take calipers into a shop and make a couple of quick measurements yourself though, if you feel that would be helpful.

As a point of comparison, here are some measurements from another thread I took recently of various necks. The first measurement is the thickness front to back at the first fret, the other is at the twelfth fret:

Squier Strat - 20.65mm (0.813") - - - 23.40 (0.921)

MIJ Strat - 21.95 (0.864) - - - 25.40 (1.0)

MIA Strat - 20.90 (0.823) - - - 25.33 (0.997)

MIK Tele - 22.16 (0.872) - - - 22.88 (0.9)

Les Paul - 21.39 (0.842) - - - 24.81 (0.977)

Yamaha CPX - 21.02 (0.827) - - - 22.44 (0.883) (at the tenth fret)

I'm not sure how much that really tells us, because the exact dimensions depend on who was manning the belt sander the day a particular neck was made. But it does show how very different one neck can be to another, regardless of the official shape or model.

For what it's worth...

Cheers - C
