Hi Guys

First time I've been on here so please excuse my ignorence. I have acquired an american deluxe neck with a serial number on the back of the headstock starting DZ2 but the date on the heel is FFB Feb 2003 and the label in the pocket side is May 2003. I was led to believe that the date on the heel is usually the first to go on?

Does this seem weird or am I getting worried over nothing?

Cheers
Jon

I dont see what there is to worry about, you must have a very very late 02 serial no'. They carry them over into the next year until their all used up. Theres nothing unusual about a couple of months difference between body and neck dates. It's a 03 for whatever that is worth.

Nothing to worry about. The thing about Fender guitars is they are modular and the pieces get finished at different times.

This could be a likely scenario:
The neck was finished in Feb of 03, but sometimes serial numbers overlap a couple of months at the beginning of the year, hence the 02 serial number and we can assume that batch of necks were warehoused until the body was completed in May of 03.

Thanks guys

It was simply the information regarding the heel number that threw me somewhat.

I'll just go and enjoy playing!

Cheers
